Need a pep talk on using a Moby for 1 week old

I got a Moby and I'm really excited to try it out, but also extremely nervous. I was looking through the manual and the safety tips freaked me out. She's just so tiny and I don't want anything to happen to her.
But my husband goes back to work Monday and it would make it easier if I could wear her around while at home alone. Any advice or suggestions on biting the bullet and wrapping up a one week out?

  • Looking at the videos on youtube TOTALLY helped me!

  • You'll love weaing your little one trust me.  Here are my tips.

First practice a few times with a teddy bear until you get to where you feel comfortable.  Also I don't recommend cradle hold because it is really difficult to get the positioning right.  I kept to hug hold.

You want the wrap to be tight on you before you put LO in, and I mean tight.  The fabric has a lot of stretch to it so the tighter you get it in the beginning the better it will feel on your back later.

And of course some of the basics.  Make sure you always keep baby's airway clear, no chin to chest (which is why I don't recommend cradle) you want to always be able to see baby's face.  You also want baby to be nice and high, you should be able to easily kiss the top of your baby's head.

Here's a good link if you'd like to know more.

  • I know the instructions say keep one dinger distance between her chin and chest. I guess I'm not entirely sure how to make sure the space is there. I'm worried about using her swing for the same reason.
  • The great thing about the moby (and wearing her high) is you can feel her breathing which helps bring you alot of piece of mind.  I kept DD high enough I could feel her breathing on my neck/collar bone area.

  • Thanks! I'm so excited to start wearing her, but I haven't gotten past being freaked out by how fragile she is. I get nervous if she's laying for too long without moving and I always have to go squish her cheeks to check.
  • I had DD in the Moby on Mon at Target, she was born on Friday, completely safe!  Do it, and post pics, and we can tell you if something looks unsafe.
  • You can do it!!! You will be able to feel LO close to you and know she is safe. With the Moby most carries are popable and so you can practice and once you feel comfortable pop her in. This way you still have her in your arms once she is in and you can see if she feels secure versus some other ccarries where you wrap around LO and they are being held by just the fabric while you tie. I hope you love it!

  • I have a one week old and I use the Moby with him all the time.  It's one of the only ways I can get anything done around the house (that and the Ergo w/ infant insert).  Like a PP said, I would not suggest the cradle hold.  I would get him in there and it seemed like he was positioned correctly and high enough, then he would slide down.  I much prefer the hug hold and it feels more secure.

  • Just practice, practice, practice. It gets so much easier the more you do it.
