Basically, the doc will wait until he can get at least a finger through
the cervix, and he or she will separate the bag of water from the
cervix. This gets the process going and is also said to release
"prostiglandins" in the cervix which will start contractions. It does
not work for everyone, but it is a good place to start. Be aware, it is
not a pleasant or pain free experience. It is quite uncomfortable!!
