I'm not personally a fan of the long, shaggy, messy hair thing that's cool now with boys. To each their own - but my boys have short haircuts and I think it looks nice.
DS has the shaggy hair going on...I haven't cut it yet! DH and my dad are on me to cut it but I just can't bring myself to do it yet. I know it is only hair but it's like after that...he not my baby anymore! Completely ridiculous, I know! lol
Mine did until Tuesday night Although it was more of his 'baby' haircut than a shaggy one. We got him all cleaned up now though and it looks cute. I actually like it both ways, but it was starting to look a little like a mullet in the back and that wasn't cute.
I think this picture says it all. But I am not a fan of it either. I made him cut it all off before school started. I am like you. I like the nice boy clean cut look. We let him grow it out for baseball season. Football season/fall he wears it short....
P.S. Plus I hate that the boys with that haircut, including my son, throw their heads back to get the bangs out of their face!! That annoys me. I always say stop that! Let me cut your bangs if it's bothering you but don't throw your hair back like a runway model!
Haha! I asked my husband this same question about if he will let our boys (if we have any), have long hair. His answer, just like daddy, clean cut, no saggy here. I agree with him. Until they are in jr. high they will do as we please with their hair. After that there will still be "rules".
No long shaggy hair for my boys!! I'm going to get my 17 month old's cut pretty soon for the first time - DH and I both like short haircuts for boys. His sister is the opposite - both her boys have long curly hair, and she only gets the bangs trimmed for her 4 year-old... he gets mistaken for a little girl often, even if he's wearing super masculine clothes. Her 2 year old is growing a mini-mullet for sure. It doesn't bother SIL, but it totally bothers me!
My DS is 11 and yes he does have the long shaggy hair. I love long hair first of all but also my son has terrible collick throughout his hair. If it is short there is NO WAY to make to behave. However he is one of the few in our school to have it. My son is the envy of his peers hehe
For Bryce Addison and all of heaven's smallest angels
No shaggy hair for as long as I can help it. DH is Army and would freak out I think, plus I am not a fan of the shaggy, falling in your eyes look on boys. I can't stand having bangs myself for the same reason!
If my son has hair like his daddy's it will most definitely be kept short. My husband's hair is very curly and course, so much so he can grow a fro. White boy fros just aren't cute, so buzz cut it is (just like daddy!).

If I have my way it'll be on the longer, shaggy side like I prefer DH's hair. However if DH has his way, it'll be shorter. I hate when DH gets his hair cut - his hair is like Dr. McDreamy's and really makes his friends jealous so cutting it seems like a sin. DH sneaks out of the house once a month for a cut and then slinks home with a baseball cap on.
He's 4 now and I take the clippers to his head every 2 months because it's easiest for me. When he's older he can decide what he wants.
Of course DH had long-ish hair when we met. My dad had long hair and a long beard for the first 10 years of my life and my brother has always had longer hair than me so I don't mind shaggy at all.

Its not a buzz cut (I dont like those on little boys) its just short and the top is a bit longer so we can sort of do a half spikey thing.
Its neat and trim. I'm not a fan of shaggy boys either. Though I do get what OP said about her son not being a baby anymore.
Big boy haircuts definetly age them!
This. It's gotta be neat. His hair is so straight it just looks unkept if it's long. Maybe I'd let it go a little longer if it had some curl, but not much.

My DH had the shaggy hair in the 70s (which I hate 70s-era hairdos) and he looked sloppy. Thank goodness he wears it shorter now (he looks so much cuter). I wouldn't let my LOs hair get shagged out either (when he's little). I'm not a fan of the army-type buzz cut or bowl cuts, but just to have a decent, manageble length, but it still look cute.

Absolutely no shaggy hair on my son. The other day I saw a boy with his head shaved on one side and long shaggy hair on the other side. It looked horrible. My sister and I were trying to figure out if he was a girl or a boy until he turned and the other side was shaved.
I love long hair on boys, and if my son has my husband's great curly hair, he might as well wear it shaggy. Right now, though, he hates letting me comb out tangles, so we keep it short.
I'm all for letting kids be individuals and find safe ways to "rebel". If he gets good grades and stays out of trouble, he can dress and style himself however he wants. He'll end up a clean-cut grown-up soon enough.

My son is not yet two, so I consider him a baby still. I have not cut his hair. He has beautiful tight curls, and I worry that when I cut them they won't grow back. He has a big fro, but it is so cute!!! I don't like when people try to make a baby look older than they are. Im in no hurry for him to grow up. Im also not a fan of putting baby boys in jeans and "hard" clothes; let them wear their jammies and have their long hair for a few years, then worry about it. Just my opinion!
I think my mom cut my hair when I was a month old...yes I had that much hair! So I wouldn't have a problem cutting my child's hair and I am also not a fan of shaggy hair it looks dirty especially becuse children get everywhere lol..I worked at a daycare for almost 3 years and it would annoy me that the children did not have their hair cut!
H has really long hair which I love. We talked about if we have a boy and while he's young it'll be nicely cut/styled. Once he's older and can take care of it himself then it's up to him how he wants it.
I flip flop when it comes to what length I like my son to have. He's 4, and I didn't cut his hair at all until he was probably more than a year old, and at that point I just trimmed it anyway because I had this thing against shaving his head entirely -- all the kids I'd ever known that wore super short hair in the summer and whatever were complete brats so I attached that behavior to the hair.
The second time I cut his hair he moved around way too much and I screwed it up so I caved and shaved it all off. He looked way cuter than I pictured he would, and it makes him look older.
Now he actually likes having shorter hair because my hubby shaves his head into a crew cut, army style, when he gets around to doing his hair so naturally my son wants to look the same. I think he looks best when his hair is a little bit longer but not so long it gets in his eyes and goes past his ears.. it's getting too long when I can tuck it behind his ears (like right now) and he's been practically begging me for a haircut all week.
I don't really like it when it gets too long (that's a result of my laziness when it does) because he looks considerably younger than I feel that he should. I like that he looks like a little boy instead of a baby now that he's almost school aged.

Oh gez I sound like my parents!
we keep ds's hair cut short...his poor head gets wayyy too sweaty when his hair is long.

Not while he's under my roof! Ask me again when he's a teenager, I guess, but while he's still a little guy, he will have nice clean-cut hair.
also, if at any point in his life he grows the redneck rattail, he's disowned.

Kiddo has shaggy hair - it's actually longer than it is in my siggy right now - and I love it ;-)
When he's old enough to have a preference, he can have it however he wants.
