Did your doctor recommend seeing a cardiologist?

Also, I was told that I will need to increase my folic acid intake because the chances of having a child with spinal bifida are now higher. Are you doing that also?

My best friend called me from Sweden this morning crying because she is pregnant and she feels so bad because she knows what is going on. I felt terrible that she felt so bad about telling me.

Hi mdluv. Mari would definitely be a better person to answer because I don't have MTHFR. However, my BFF does. She was diagnosed after 3 miscarriages. She has not seen a cardiologist. However, she took folgard (or something similar) for extra folic acid and other B vitamins and low dose aspirin. She was told she should continue the low dose aspirin even when she is not TTC or PG to reduce the risk of heart attacks.

She is compound heterozygous MTHFR. She did not have to be on Lovenox during her pregnancy, though.

Also, I know my Dx is different, but I was told that I should remain on the low dose aspirin when not TTC or PG because of the blood clotting issues.

I guess it is good I am IF right? It might keep me from getting a blood clot that could give me a heart attack.

Yes, she had a beautiful baby girl in January. Her daughter is completely healthy and the sweetest thing ever! They are going to start trying for number two here soon.

Just so you know, MTHFR is (or at least can be) hereditary. Her family was tested after she found this out and her mother (and maybe one of her sisters) tested positive. Her mother had four kids without knowing this.

Yes because MTHFR is an on going issue that affects other aspects not just TTC!

I take a foltab, and PNV. I also increased my intake on green leafy veggies, they contain a ton of folic. It doesn't suck I promise. But I also plan on seing the cardiologist after the baby.

Yes, I know it is hereditary. My mom had two miscarriages but also had three healthy children so I wonder if she has it.

My younger sister is 24 and getting married in a few months so I am going to let her know she should probably get tested.

I am glad to know it is possible to have a healthy baby!

Thanks hon. I knew it increased my chances of miscarriage but I never knew all the other implications that came with it.

I am so scared of not having a healthy baby now but I will just do what they tell me!

Mdluv, your dad should be tested, too. Because MTHFR can effect the cardiovascular system, it would be good for both of your parents to be tested. That way if one or both test positive their doctor can put them on a treatment plan.

Did they test your homocysteine level? I am pretty sure that my BFF's homocysteine level was within normal range and that is why she didn't need Lovenox when she was PG.

Hi there. I was diagnosed with it after my second m/c. I have to take baby asprin daily and extra folic acid (4mg) along with my prenatal. I went to a hematologist and she said I didnt need lovenox when I get prego cause I dont have another risk factors such as lupos or have had a PE or DVT. I have compound hetero. Good luck!

Hey Md, so sorry you're having a rough time:( You had a lot thrown at you in a short amount of time, so it's understandable. I have MTHFR and he put me on Heparin, baby aspirin and increased folic acid. He mentioned we might only do this through the first tri though. Definitely did not mention a cardiologist, but I am also not entirely sure which mutation I have.

my Dr gave me a vitamin he makes for MTHFR...and no cadiologist. Def increase folic acid, B6 and B12...he just makes his own supp in 2 vitamins per day. Sorry you have to go through this hon.
