Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  I'm 11w3d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Still feeling pretty normal other than the sheer exhaustion I still have.  I did tell my office this week about the LO and everyone was super excited!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  I go for my NT Scan on Monday and I'm super nervous (although I have no reason to be really), but super excited to see LO look like an actual baby than just a flickering blob.

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?  I just start working out this week.  It's hard to get motivated that's for sure!  I plan to workout 3x/week right now.  Hopefully I can increase that as I get into second tri.

  • seriously, thank goodness for these - I've been a bad blogger mama and I am currently using the back weeks to fill in the blanks!

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 10 months, 1 wk

    (2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? curling his tongue, lol, getting over the separation/stranger anxiety, and apparently likes dogs!  He let one lick his face the other day and he started giggling and leaning his head in for more! LOL

    (3) Next appointment date? 12 month well visit

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?   getting him not to touch the stuff we can't hide that he isn't allowed around (cable wires, DVDs, etc.

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?  did some yoga, that was about it.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?  no, cost.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)   DH was out of work before we started TTC, so we had talked about it and we knew that he would be a SAHD and go to classes at night.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  30w5d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Feeling good!  Lots and lots of movement these days!  And I've started to be able to identify how the baby is positioned, and which parts of poking out of me at times, hah.  Pretty neat to rub his back through my belly!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  We're at every other week now, so next appointment is in 2 weeks.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  hrm, not much!  doing well Smile

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?  ...erm, i don't?  Sad  i keep telling myself i will walk 30 min 3x/week, but I've failed miserably.  In general, I'm trying to walk more, but haven't done a good job at all.  tell me your routines, i want to be inspired!

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?  I'm planning to BF at least 6 months, hopefully a year if we can do it.  We'll see.  No idea on how to wean yet!

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?  really curious to see responses here, as i'm debating whether we need one, and whether it's worth the additional cost...

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)  i need help!  i've been putting this off for so long, really need to get on it.  but it's been SO hard to get recommendations!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    7.75 months old

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

A little anxious about being a student again...and taking on an accelerated MBA right now but it's the best timing for the goals we have as a family.  I keep reminding myself that I just need to take one day at a time and not think about the entire 18 month program or even the 5-week long courses.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

After reading Robbi's post I want to look into getting Libby's eyes checked (beyond the quickie look that she gets at the pedi) and also start looking for a pediatric dentist.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Teething...again.  Her top two teeth are about to pop through any minute.  And we also need to baby proof the house since this girl is now on the go!  Crawling and pulling up!

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?

Mainly just walking...sometimes on the treadmill or just around the neighborhood...20-30 minutes/day most days of the week.

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?

I plan to do extending BFing and let weaning be as "child led" as possible.  That said, I do hope to TTC2 this time next year and if my fertility has not full returned by then, then I may consider mama-led weaning.  We shall see.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?

We did and was so glad that we did.  She was our Bradley Birth instructor and I found her online.  We interviewed her when I was about 28 weeks along and booked her soon after...we decided to hire her because being GD and wanting as little interventions as possible and wanting a "pro" there to just support us.  She did all of that and more and was amazing to have as a help to not only me, but to DH too throughout L&D.  She came and visited us when Libby was a day old (at the hospital) and then again a week later (once we were home and settled)...we'll use her again, no question.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)

We started looking when I was about 6 months pg.  So far it's turned out that we don't need daycare, but if/when we do we have the place we'd like to use.  Our criteria?  Highly rated, clean facility with a dedicated outdoor space for the kids, low teacher to student ratio, an implemented curriculum, no screen time (some centers use TV/Videos...we didn't want that), close to work/home and affordable.  We found a great preschool that is part of an Episcopalian Church.  They don't have a religious curriculum though, which is our preference.

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    Elyse turned 9 months yesterday.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

We had E's 9 month check up: she's over 17 pounds and still in the 50th percentile.

Some big news for me is that I resigned from my full time position last week.  We decided that it would be better for our family if I only went back to work part time.  I don't officially have to go back to work until January when my Mat leave is over, so that's when I'll start looking for part time work.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?df

SEPERATION ANXIETY!  GAH!  We worked really hard to be able to put Elyse down to sleep while she was awake but drowsy... but all that has gone out the window.  She cries and freaks out the second she realized I'm not longer holding her or standing above her crib.

She is fine to be left with MH or MIL while I go out, but when I return and leave again (for example I come home from a run and then go to have a shower), she will have a fit.

Any experience or advice on this would be much appreciated.  Anything we've read is to "wait out the phase"...

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?

When I was pregnant I did aquafit.  Next time I'm planning to swim laps to keep in shape.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?

Yes we had a Doula.  She was recommended to us by our Midwife.  We met up with her for coffee to "interview" her, I knew about 10 minutes in that she was the lady for me.  I was really afraid of labor and she was good at discussing it in a way that made me feel strong and calm.  In fact during my labor I really tuned into her voice.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)

I haven't started looking yet.  In home daycare is more common where I live.  We're looking at possibly having Elyse go to day care 2 days a week and stay with my MIL the third.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    8 weeks today!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

He slept 6 hours straight (just once!) last weekend....yay!  Even though it was only once, he still has been sleeping 4-5 hours at a stretch when he first goes to bed.  Also, we started putting him in his crib for the first part of the night.  I still bring him into the co-sleeper in the morning, but he's doing okay so far in the crib in the beginning (when he's the most tired).

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Next Wednesday for his 2-month...I'm so nervous about his shots!  I know he'll be fine, I just worry about ME crying!  :)

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Just typical evening fussiness.  He's awake more in the evenings, which is great, but it's getting harder and harder to eat dinner!

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?

We just walked a lot.  3 miles at first, then as we got the the 3rd tri, less and less down to only about a 1/2 mile at a time.  ;)

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?

Honestly, my BFing goal is up next week.  Originally I wanted to do it for at least 6 months, but I'm still having tons of trouble with low supply and slow flow.  He HATES BFing!  I still plan to pump for a while (as long as I can, basically), but he'll be bottle-only in a week or so.  I just can't take his screams anymore....he's so much happier with a bottle.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?

No, it just didn't seem necessary for me.  To be perfectly honest, I was never planning on doing it completely naturally....I like medication!  ;)  Then I needed to have a c-section anyway.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)

We started looking when I was only about 12 weeks pregnant.  I knew there's be a waiting list anywhere we went with, so we started early.  We loved the first center we saw, and looked at a few others, but went with that first one.  We wanted a large center, as opposed to home care.  I just feel that with home care, you have to deal with them getting sick, going on vacation, etc.  I needed someplace very reliable.  We liked their low ratio of teachers/students, the facility is beautiful and clean, including the outdoor play areas, and overall we just got a good "vibe" there.

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Almost 5 months! Eeek!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? A little tired. The boys are waking up hungry earlier and earlier right now, I suspect because the bottle just isn't cutting it and they need solids.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Tuesday - finally getting my IUD, yaaaaay! We can have spontaneous sex again! (Sorry if that's TMI, but damn condoms are a PITA after years of not using them!)

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Finding a carer for them in the 6 weeks between when I return to work and when we can actually get them into a day care at Christmas.

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout? I didn't. Stick out tongue I walked for 20 min a day for the first 15 weeks or so, but after that I just started getting too uncomfortable. I don't know how women exercise while pregnant!

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that? We were planning on starting solids at 6 months, but our boys have other ideas and we'll be starting at 5 months (or maybe a day or two before) instead. They're getting hungrier and hungrier and the bottles just aren't cutting it any more - and since they can sit unassisted and are enthralled by watching us eat, we decided to go ahead and proceed with the solids. We'll probably start with just a little rice or oatmeal cereal, and then go for something like peas.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)? No. There's only one that services our entire region, and ultimately we decided our money would be better spent elsewhere. I don't regret this decision at all - I think a doula is important to some women and not to others, depending on your personality. Smile

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home? We weren't that picky - we couldn't afford to be. The waiting lists for places are INSANE here. I got on several the instant I found out I was pregnant, and they still don't have vacancies (as it is, it looks like we'll get places around Christmas time, so we have to work out something for the 6 weeks between when I return to work and then). We put in applications everywhere except the really bad areas of town where the centers don't have good reputations.
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 14w4d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? i have good days and bad days. things seem to be on the up and up, but then there will be a few hours when i'm out of commission. oh last week we had our results from our 1st trimester bt and nt scan and everything is good. oh and i didn't need an iv! oh and i can drink water now!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? oct. 1. yay! it's my first appt that is more than 1 week! because of the hg the drs. were seeing me every week...

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? sleeping. trying to get comfy at night. mh doesn't sleep with me now because i have a lot of pillows and move around. but we have a small bed. heheh

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout? i'm starting to walk around the house. i know it doesn't sound like much, but i'm off the couch!

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that? haven't thought of it yet... =)

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have  one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    Alexa is ONE YEAR OLD!!!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

She's been walking since a little past 11 months, but right before she turned 1, she officially crossed the line from crawling to "walking more than crawling"!!! She also just cut her top to teeth. Finally!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

We had her 1-year appointment last Friday. She weighed in at 19 lbs, 13 oz and 28.5 inches long. In the 25th percentile. Peanut!

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

We stopped nursing. I got an eye infection shortly after she turned 1 and didn't want to infect her. Since I was nearly dried up anyway, I just stopped cold turkey. I'm sad about it and miss it, but I try not to dwell on it. I wish I had a better supply, but I was just dried up and the end was kind of natural. She doesn't appear to miss it... Although she's been very clingy to me lately, which of course I love....

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?

I ran until about 20 weeks, then just did yoga.

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?

My goal was 1 year. So, we're weaned. It was a gradual process. She got only BM from nursing and pumping until about 9.5 months, when I ran out of my frozen supply and had to start using formula to supplement. At first, I supplemented only 3-5 oz of formula a day. Then I was basically making formula bottles that had 3-4 oz of BM a day. At about 11 months, I dropped my pumping form 3x/day to 2x/day. Then down to 1x/day. I also dropped the before-bed pump and night nurse. By 2 weeks before her 1st birthday, I stopped pumping altogher and was down to just one nurse each day, in the morning. Two days after she turned 1 (last Sunday), I stopped that morning nurse and so now we are done.

I feel like it was a gradual process for us, and that has made it easier for me to handle. I knew it was coming and it wasn't a sudden thing for either of us. Also, I could tell that she was ready to be done. Plus, I've been running a lot and it started to become a pain to nurse or pump before going for my morning run. And pumping was getting annoying. I was ready to be done and get my freedom back... But emotionally, I still do miss it.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?

    Nope.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)

There is a daycare at DH's office, which is a govenrment building. So we didn't really shop around, we just got on the wait list there as soon as we could.

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

I would like a question about what new foods you feed your LO to get ideas! Help!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 7mo on sunday

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? not really.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? n/a

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? figuring out work related travel and childcare

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout? I loved yoga (normal class until 20-something weeks and also prenatal throughout).  I also walked either outside or on the treadmill 2-3 times a week.  Modified bedrest at 37 weeks = didn't do anything.

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that? 2ish?  So far away that I haven't even started to think about it.  Whatever seems to be working for us by that point.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?  nope.  Thought about it - prenatal yoga instructor had lots of doulas in training contact info and they are free or deeply reduced so I would have went with one of them.  Really I was soooooo read up and prepared about natural childbirth and I knew DH would go to battle with whoever if needed.  Worked for us.  That  is all I would have needed - I am not big on cheerleading and (accurately) knew I wouldn't need lots of support/hand-holding.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...) talked to the few other moms in the area that I knew and toured the center we went with.  got on the waiting list.  It's attached to our church (but not religiously based) so it was already on my radar so to speak.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 34w5d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Just this week, I have started to feel tired/sleepy than usual. (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next appointment is in 2 weeks for my 36 wk appointment. I will have my internal check up then and will see one of the three docs in my practice (already met the other one yesterday; 3rd one is my primary doc). No more ultrasounds lined up for me unless it is medically necessary.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Doc said my body may be starting to retain water so I had been drinking tons of water to offset that! I am also having a hard time trying to curb my sweet cravings. I don't like chocolate but my little pumpkin now suddenly loves sweets/chocolates(I hated sweets during 1st & 2nd tri). Ugh!

    5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout? I had been working out 5-6x a week before I got pregnant. After I got pg, I was doing spin 2x a week, yoga 1x a week, kickboxing 1x a week and bootcamp 2x a week. I did that until mid 2nd tri. Kickboxing was the first one to go since all the kicking would aggravate my lower back problems. I gave up bootcamp end up June. Now, I still workout 3-5x a week depending on my schedule. I do spin 2x a week, strength training (legs and arms) 2x a week, yoga 1x a week and zumba 1x week. I may give up spin class soon since my huge belly is starting to get in the way :-P!  I plan to exercise until my water bag breaks! lol.

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?

No although it may be nice to have one. I just do not want the extra expense. Hopefully, my sister will be here when I go on labor so she'll be my doula lol.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)

I think we signed up on waitlists around 12 weeks or so. We only looked at centers and not in-home daycares. I researched online, asked around on our local nestie board and another local mom board before deciding which centers to sign up for. Of course, we also had to take the cost into consideration. Right now, we are confirmed on one and a spot will be ready for us come April just as when I am scheduled to go back to work. The center is fairly new so it is clean and we got a good vibe when we visited the center. I have also talked to a mom who has her child there and they were happy with the center. I am not sure if we'll change our minds and want to get a nanny or switch to in-home daycare once LO is here. For now, it gives us a peace of mind that we have our DCP lined up.

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
Did you tell your doc to wait to clump the cord?
How did you decide on what kind of life insurance to get to make sure you have LO covered if something happens to you and/or DH?

  •  (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  34w5d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling good.  Backache has subsided (for now), but sleeping and getting out of bed is still a chore.  I think I'm beginning to adopt a bit of a waddle, too.  Stick out tongue  Baby T has been extremely active the last couple of weeks, which I LOVE.  I'll be a little sad once his activity level starts decreasing.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  Next Monday (35w1d) for a check-up.  I think the OB will be doing the Strep B swab.  Fun.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  I've had a couple of panic attacks about things we still need to do before Baby T arrives.  I need to accept that we will never have enough space.  Our baby shower is this Sunday.  I'll be appreciative of any gifts people may bring, but then I wonder, "Where are we going to put everything?!"  I don't even know where we'll put Baby T's clothes, blankets, etc. since we simply do not have any room for a dedicated dresser.

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?  Sandra, I would be of no inspiration to you.  Stick out tongue  I haven't followed any type of formal exercise routine since becoming pregnant.  To be quite honest, I've never followed any type of exercise routine, even when I was on WW (although losing weight did help me become more active, in general).  I was really concerned about unhealthy weight gain during pregnancy, but as of my last appt 1-1/2 weeks ago, I was up 20 lbs at 33w3d, which, along with other health indicators, my doctor was pleased with.  I told myself that after the fatigue and nausea of the 1st tri had passed, I would walk around the neighborhood 3x/week.  Yeah, that never happened.  While I wouldn't call it "exercise", I think the activity that comes with nesting and preparing for a baby (i.e., shopping!) has helped.

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?  I would like to BF for 1 year, but we'll see how that goes.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?  We will not have a doula.  I thought about it, but after talking it over with MH, we decided against it.  Surprisingly, MH was a little hurt that I was considering bringing someone along.  He thinks we'll do just fine, just the 2 of us.

  • Sandra - you've got Adair's birthday right (9/6) Thank you!

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  2 weeks on Monday!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  good...tired, but good.  At first, Adair would set her watch and wake up exactly every 2 hours to nurse (day & night) but the stretches are getting a little longer which is really nice.  I am really looking forward to a nice 4 hour stretch of sleep!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  DD has her 1 month check up in a few weeks & I have to schedule my pp checkup for late October

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  sleep deprivation!

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?  i was doing great with the prenatal yoga during the 1st trimester and then the Saints went to the Superbowl & Mardi Gras was something like a week later.  Exercise got put on hold & never really picked up again. I started having back ache during my 2nd tri so I did try to pick up the yoga again & it definitely helped, but once I got really big, I stopped doing that too!

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?  We are doing really well with BF right now.  I do plan on nursing as long as I am on maternity leave (I got back in Jan - so about 4 months).  I am little nervous about how things will go when I go back to work.  I just got a pump though so I will get to try it out maybe next week & see how things go.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?  we didn't.  they are not very popular down here (though there are some that are available) it just wasn't something that was really important to me.  My dr knew my wishes & I knew she would follow them as much as possible.

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)  We are on the waiting list for several places all that were recommended by other parents.  We can for sure get into two places, but both are not really near the house or our offices.  Hopefully something else will open up closer, but if not, there is a Catholic school right around the corner that has a reputable program but no openings until next Sept.  Worse case, she goes to one of the places not so close until then & then we can switch her.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 8 weeks, 4 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Other than my suddenly ginormous breasts and recent need for at least 8 hours sleep, I don't feel much different. Luckily I haven't had much nausea. (Poor kinibruin! I can't even imagine.)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? My next appointment is the first week of October.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? I had to tell a coworker about my pregnancy this week, because I got stuck in an OR that involved a joint cement that's toxic during pregnancy. I wasn't ready to tell anyone, but I know he'll be discreet.

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout? I haven't been exercising consistently since I found out I was pregnant. I need to get on a schedule because I've already gained all the weight I'm supposed to for the first trimester and I've still got a ways to go. Ugh. I haven't changed my eating habits, so I think I'm gaining too quickly because my activity level has decreased.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?  I won't have a doula. I'm in labor and delivery rooms on a regular basis, so I'm comfortable with the process.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    about 10 months 1 week

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

I taught her how to high-5! LOL ....i used to just clap and praise her when she used the potty but now i clap, praise her, and then i say "high 5!" and she holds her hand up in the air and waits for me to give her a high 5 :) it's soooooooooo cute

she still hasn't taken any more steps since the one day that she did it for the sitter (still SO upset i missed it!) but she is standing for short periods of time here and there

she also had ground beef and chicken for the first time this week - so she's officially no longer a vegetarian! :)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

not until her 12 month appt

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

teething!!! she started biting me while nursing on Tues and on Wed morning she drew blood Surprise i was worried i was going to have to stop nursing soon but i anxiously kept nursing her and gave her a firm "no biting" when she did it and stopped nursing her...and since Wed morning she has not bitten me again. she still occasionally "forgets" to unclench her gums before pulling off (ouch!) but i am just thankful she isn't biting anymore. i really didn't want to stop nursing just b/c she finally has a tooth

    (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout?

    i didn't Stick out tongue

    (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?

my goal is to BF for at least a year and i hope to let her self wean if possible.  we'll see how that goes.

    (7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?

    no

    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)

we have a sitter/nanny that comes to our home to take care of her when i go to work (2-3 days/wk). we didn't want her in day care, at least not until she was older.  i found that word of mouth was the best way to go.  our first sitter was just a coworker of mine who needed the extra cash - she has 2 kids, ages 1 and 3, so i knew she would be good with her, esp since her youngest was only 3 months older than miss A.  when she moved, we had to find someone new...we got one recommendation from my cousin's friend and then also searched on a local website where people post recommendations of people they've previously used.  that's where we found the person that is taking care of her now.  it was hard trusting someone we didn't personally know, but one of her references had hired her through an agency (that did a background check on her) and had nothing but great things to say about her, so it has helped put my mind at ease.  so far we like her and miss A seems to like her too

Anything we've read is to "wait out the phase"...

if you recall, we went through this too :( it is hard. it was like all of a sudden i couldn't put her down for a nap w/o her crying! as soon as i let go of her she'd scream.  i also couldn't walk across the room - i.e. she'd be in her high chair and i'd walk to the other side of the room to get something from the fridge and she'd scream bloody murder like she was worried i wasn't coming back.  for that i'd just keep talking to her and reassure her that i was still there and coming back.  for the naps, that was when i had to do the pu/pd method... i think it helped her sleep during that phase and eventually she just got over the separation anxiety and now we are back to putting her down awake and she just plays for a little bit and goes right to sleep.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? He is 3 weeks old now, to the hour.(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling good, trying to enjoy each day and each moment with LO.  He's still a mellow baby but he's getting a bit more vocal and sometimes is a little fussy in the evening and wants to eat, eat, eat.  The lack of sleep is tough, he's up sometimes every hour to nurse.  Luckily MH is off for 4.5 weeks and he's been a HUGE help, can't imagine not having him here with us right now. :)(3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? J has his 1 month check up coming up and I go back for my 6 week PP check up in a couple of weeks.(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Feeling more tired and I need to try and get a nap in during the day, haven't been doing that but I really should.  (5) How do/did you exercise while PG, what was your normal routine and how many times per week did you workout? I pretty much will echo what Nicole said.  I had high hopes of getting some good walking in but I didn't walk much after all... I should have though.  Luckily my weight gain was minimal but still. (6) At what age are you planning to wean? How do you plan to do that?  I'm not sure at this time, he's great with BF'ing but we'll take it day by day.  I didn't originally set any goals other than I'd give it my all and so far I'm really enjoying it and of course it benefits LO :)(7) Mamas:  Did you have a doula?  Why did you decide to have/not have one?  If you did have one, how did you find her (or him, I suppose!)?   We didn't have a doula but I've heard good things.  Not sure why not, I loved my OB so much and didn't feel the need.
    (8) Mamas: How did you find and decide on a daycare, whether at a center or in-home?  (We've heard some great tips from MrsZiz lately!  But I'm having a really tough time getting recommendations.  The default answer seems to always be the same chain of centers, which runs about $2k/month...)  We'll take LO to the day care at MH's work, he works for a big University here. A few of his co-workers take their kids there so we've heard good feedback.  Not looking forward to it even though it'll be next September.
