DD's tear duct in one of her eyes is still blocked. I've heard that if they don't open up by the 9 month appointment that they schedule to have it opened surgically. Has anyone else heard this? Do you know what it entails?
Our pedi gives it 1 year, then schedules surgery. The entire surgery from pre-op to release to recovery is about 45 minutes and they literally just go in and poke the blockage open.
My neighbor's son had to have it done, but DS' blocked duct cleared up just overnight one day about 6 weeks ago... GL!!
Could it be an eye infection? Maybe your doctor told you otherwise, but I just wanted to let you know my experience.
I took DD to a free eye appointment with an InfantSEE doctor. I told her I thought her tear duct was just clogged. She looked at it and it was an eye infection. She gave us meds and it cleared right up. Just wanted to throw that possibility out there.
Our pedi said that it would require a visit to an opthamologist if it hadn't opened by 9 months, but didn't mention anything about surgery. This was at her 2mo. check-up though, so I guess she didn't want to alarm me early on if it wasn't necessary.

Hmm...that's interesting. They've referred to it as a blocked duct since she was born. But it's weird, sometimes it looks worse than other times. It looked especially bad when she had an ear infection, but it kind of fluctuates between looking super teary and crusty and looking normal.
Yep. Both eyes still have clogged ducts. They're getting lanced next month. He's had several eye infections because of it. But it's getting done at the Eye Dr's office, not surgery.
So, next month he's getting his eyes taken care of, tubes in his ears and his tongue surgically snipped. (He's tongue tied, only the whole under side of his tongue is attached which is why it's requiring surgery.)

Sorry that's not much help. Good luck!
