Has anyone had any experience donating their baby's cord blood in Bay Area hospitals? I heard a rumor that you can only do this if you deliver at Alta Bates...
I'm not sure where things currently stand, since I haven't looked into it in a year or so, but at that time Children's Hospital in Oakland also took blood donations.
While I haven't done the research myself, I've heard that you can contact cord blood centers. They will send you a kit. You prep the kit with the materials from birth and then send it back.
A lot of hospitals don't take it. Ours sadly doesn't.
If you find out about this, will you please share the info?
It looks like Children's isn't on the list anymore. You used to be able to bring it to them within 24 hours, but it looks like now they only take blood for siblings who need transplants.
Try contacting Stemcyte to see what your options on for getting it to Alta Bates.
