Glider: w/ or w/o Ottoman??

Ok, I know this may be a dumb question but for those who have ordered, will order, or have previously used a glider: is the ottoman really necessary?

I'm only 5' tall so a lot of the time my feet don't even (or barely) touch the ground when sitting all the way back in chairs so I'm thinking there's really no point since I don't have a whole lotta leg to stretch out on an ottoman.

Anyone have any insider ottoman experiences to share?? Thanks!

  • I'm using the glider and ottoman  of my sister's. When her son was a baby it was nice to have the ottoman, imo. But I guess it's not absolutely necessary.

  • I was given a glider without the ottoman. It doesn't bother me because I always sit "Indian style" in chairs that are difficult for the to reach to floor in. I'll be snuggled up with baby with my feet on the seat.
  • I never used the ottoman
  • we have an ottoman with our glider and i love it.  there have been times that i didn't use the ottoman and quickly asked DH to slide it under my feet.  it's more comfortable to have your feet up, especially when nursing LO.  plus having your feet up helps swelling in your feet go down after birth.

  • We got a glider that looks like an upholstered chair and we skipped the ottoman. I may go back and get a nursing stool later, but I usually sit in comfy chairs with my feet pulled under me, so I didn't want to shell out for the extra expense.

  • We used an upholstered glider/recliner (chair doesn't rock when reclined) and did not get the matching ottoman. I ended up ordering a basic ottoman cube from overstock and it works great. It doesn't glide but it was $30 vs $300. We also use it as extra seating in LO's room. I'm short too and loved using a nursing stool in the living room. Its nice for nursing but you can't put your feet up and relax so I preferred not to use it in the nursery.

  • We bought both the glider and the ottoman and sometimes I hate the ottoman because it's just in the way. It was however very helpful when DS was a baby and I was breastfeeding or rocking him to sleep at night. I was exhausted and wanted my feet propped up so I could get comfy. Now that he is older I don't use it.

  • I also don't think I want the ottoman, but MIL thinks we absolutely need it...DH and I found a glider that reclines and has a long footrest, so I think we'll be going that route.
  • I babysat my best friends daughter when she first went back to work, I really enjoyed having the ottoman, even when just rocking her, but I really like to have my feet up any chance I get.

  • I am doing with, because I want to be able to put my feet up and even nap in it.
  • Depending on where you buy from, the ottoman may come with; mine did. I've sat in the glider a lot so far and really enjoy using the ottoman as well.
