Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Thinking DS might have eczema, what can i do?

DS has rough red patches under his chin and on his arms so i am thinking it's eczema. At his 4 month check up the Pedi noticed the dry skin and said to make to put some lotion on it after the bath. Since then it has seemed to get worse. I am going to talk to the Dr. about in 2 weeks at his 6 month check up but i am wondering in the meantime if there is anything i can do to help it. thanks:)

  • Our pedi prescribed a 2% hydrocortizone lotion for DS, which he told us to cut with a little Aquafor.  We use an OTC 1% hydrocortizone on his face. When it's just a little (like not really as red or raised, etc.) we just use Aveeno.

This exactly...the only thing that has helped with Hudson's....Aquafor is a bit expensive but we are really going through it and it has helped ALOT!

  • We used only California Baby products and put this lotion on throughout the day. It really helped keep K's eczema under control....it would only get really red and dry when we'd lose the bottle of lotion for a couple days, lol.

  • Breastmilk.

Acne/Eczema/Diaper rash: Breast milk can help to clear up these nasty skin disorders. All you need to do is to wash the infected area of the skin with clean water, and then you can apply the breast milk all over the infected area. You should then let the milk air-dry.

We did this for DS1 and it has worked.

  • I use California Baby Calendula cream and it works wonders. I only lightly dry him after he gets out of the bath then slather it on. It helps trap the moisture in. It's almost cleared up now and he had big spots on his face, elbows, legs, chest, and shoulders.
  • I like using California calendula cream for skin irritations.  If you BF, you may want to eliminate any foods from your diet that could irritate your LO's skin (milk, soy, wheat, etc).  My nieces and nephew all have eczema (runs in the family) and they use Aquaphor and prescription-strength ointment if it's really bad.  Or you can also try creams/lotions and detergent for sensitive skin.

  • You've got lots of great recs for creams and lotions.  Another thing to try is special clothing.  Halo Technical Comfort clothing helps reduce itching and irritation caused by eczema and sensitive skin.  I love how soft and breathable the fabric is.  You can get more info at www.halocomforts.com
