Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

if you were pg in winter (maternity clothing ?)

Did you get any use out of maternity sweaters after your baby was born? I'm sc heduled to have #2 on 11/23, and I usually don't need to wear sweaters around here till end of October/early November, so I can't decide if it's worth buying maternity sweaters. Or if I should just live in tanks and hoodies once it gets cold.

Re: if you were pg in winter (maternity clothing ?)

  • No, I didn't get any use out of maternity sweaters once I had M (in January) but I'm one of those people who refused to wear maternity clothes once I had the baby, because I was so sick of those things. ?I would rather live in sweats. ?So maybe others who didn't despise their maternity clothes had a different experience.

  • DD was born in November, but I did wear some sweaters before she came.  I still wore them after she was born.  Probably until the new year while I was still losing weight.  I remember a few pics of me after she was born where I was still wearing maternity shirts (and pants for that matter!).

  • If I were you, I'd go ahead and buy at least a couple sweaters...and yes, I think you could get some use of them post-pg.  Because most sweaters are made to be loose-fitting anyway.

  • I bought a lot of cardigans because I was usually too hot to wear a big sweater and I live in Chicago so it is really cold. I got a lot of use out of the cardigans after because it was easy with a tank under for nursing.
  • Only the cardigan ones. Otherwise the only thing I still wear is a maternity zip up hoodie because I am tall so it is one of my only ones that is long enough and not too baggy.

  • I couldn't stand to wear sweaters, period. They were WAY too hot for me, and we live smack dab in the midwest. If I were you, I wouldn't invest in any.

  • DS #1 was born in November and I pretty much wore t-shirts with cardigans and zip up hoodies. DS #2 is due in February.... I'm sure I'll pick up a sweater or two, but most likely I'll mostly wear t-shirts and cardigans.

  • I just bought non-maternity sweaters in a size up and longer lengths so that it would accommodate my growing belly but be useful after baby was born.  I didn't buy a whole lot maternity clothes in general.

  • I didn't buy any maternity sweaters, but if I had I would not have used them after DD was born. Of course, I life in FL so it's a little different here. But, if it were me I'd just wear blankets or cardigans around the house if I got cold post-maternity.

  • My goodness, the thought of wearing a sweater when I was pregnant was repulsive! I was soooo hot all the time, so I just wore tops that were light and summery and then had a big coat for going outside. I think I owned one hoodie...but it was from pre-preg and I just wore it until it was too small. In my situation, sweaters were a waste of money.
  • I was due in April, but needed maternity sweaters in December, January and February.
I bought some cheapies from Old Navy that were really cute. I think it's definitely worth having maybe 2 or 3.

  • Maybe you could get a couple of roomy non-maternity sweaters that are cute, but can still be functional just after the baby is born.  I have a couple that I bought for that purpose and they are now my go-to sweaters for when I'm having a day when I just want to be super comfortable.

  • I have to echo the people who are recommending cardigans. You could still get a lot of use out of them after the baby.

One other thing I would suggest is a peacoat. I was able to wear my regular one all winter - couldn't button it, but the extra fabric covered me up.

  • You may get sick of living in tanks and hoodies and when you do leave the house may want to feel a little more put together. I would either invest in a maternity sweater or a sweater in a size bigger then your regular size b/c it will take a few months for you to shrink back to down. My back was still wide for months after having DS so even though my belly slowly went down and the fit there wasn't an issue, my pre-pregnancy clothes were tight across my back. GL.
  • My due date with DS#1 was also 11/23 and I bought one maternity sweater, but never wore it. I just stuck with long sleeve and short sleeve tops and was still able to fit in to a few cardigans that I would just leave unbuttoned.
