Hostess thank you question

My MIL and a friend hosted a shower for me this past weekend and I gave them a gift after the shower. However I'm trying to write a nice thank you to send each of them and I have a question.

In the thank you do I just thank them for hosting the shower or do I also include my thanks for the gift they have me? I'm not sure if I should write one thank you or two?

I'd write 1 TY to each of them and include both the party and the gift!
