so i was just sitting here wondering and thinking about having a glass of wine. then i was thinking if RE's ask you if you drink or smoke etc... and if you do, do they ask you to stop?
I have about 1glass of wine a few nights a week. it's one thing that gets me through the evening etc... and i just enjoy having a glass of wine. it's not like i'm sitting here getting drunk or anything. LOL
and DH smokes. i've been trying to get him to quit or at least cut back for a long time now but it never works.
So anyway, just wondering if an RE would ask you stop drinking or smoking etc...i wonder if my DH would actually stop then???
i probably won't see an RE till after dec. anyway but just curious what others have gone through.
thanks!

Re: those who've seen an RE come in...
I would say drink in moderation but try to avoid around ovulation time. If you end up on injections, then I would try to avoid drinking altogether. I was the one about two years ago who was very careful about not drinking during the 2ww but now I have loosened the rules about that and just drink in moderation. I never asked the RE specifically. But I do remember asking about antibiotics while on fertility meds... and they said you could do antibiotics while on fertility...and in my opinion, antibiotics are much worse than a glass of wine. FYI.. I have since divorced my RE.
As far as the smoking, I know for a fact that you fill out your intial medical history, they will ask about smoking and drinking. It could become a concern with it comes time with the SA. I am not a smoker but I could imagine how hard it would be too quit..although it is a good thing to quit for overall health.
GL..and if you have any other questions, you can PM me.

thanks for all that info. i just feel when it comes to TTC it's alway about us ladies. if an RE asked me to stop drinking, i would if it meant i'd have a greater chance at conceiving. however, if the RE asked DH to quit smoking i honestly don't know if he would? i hope he would but who knows. i don't smoke so it's not an issue for me but i know it's DH's release and it would take alot for him to quit.
For the most part i think i do drink in moderation but i drink often if that makes sense? i dont' drink to get sloshed anymore and 1 drink is enough for me.
thanks! DH doesn't really drink but he does smoke so i wonder if the RE would ask him to stop. and even if he asked, i'm still not sure if DH would stop.
( maybe i could start preparing him now (again). lol it's been a never ending battle to get him to quit.
In all three of my intial RE consults, I told them I was a social drinker and they kinda just shrugged and went on... I think one glass of wine is fine. And, truthfully, it just made me more depressed when I would skip out on the wine when I was being cautious, just in case and it never would happen. I guess that would my very laid back outlook on dirnking. GL!!!
Both of them that I saw asked on their paperwork how many glasses you had per week. Like you, I drink a glass of wine (or two) 3-4 nights per week. So I put that down. Neither one of them said anything about it being a problem. I think as long as its in moderation, its not a problem.
Now, they may say something about your DH smoking....I don't know.
i wish they would say something about DH smoking. although he just said if they asked him to quit, he probably still wouldn't do it.
( sigh.
Your drinking amount sounds fine.
They will def. say something about the smoking.
The only thing they took away from me was my caffeine...whimper.
i only drink 1/2 and 1/2 coffee and only about 1-2 cups a day so if they asked me to cut out caffeine completely i could comply. but i hope they'd still allow decaf b/c i like my coffee.
)
My RE didn't really say anything about my drinking (I have a few drinks each week also), and she just told DH that he really should quit smoking.
I've been trying to get DH to quit, but it's not happening anytime soon.
