Am I the only one?? (Finding out the gender)

My husband and I aren't planning on finding out the sex....are we the only ones? He kind of wants to but I don't...it's ok though, cuz I like to be different!! I've heard several people say that there are no surprises left in this world, so why not let this be one? :) I have to say, I agree. Maybe we'll find out with our second.

  • You aren't the only one--we aren't finding out either Smile  Although, I have to say at our ultrasound tomorrow it will be tough to stay strong if the tech says he/she knows the gender--good thing DH will be there to keep me strong!

  • we're not finding out either. I was on the fence about it, but DH doesn't want to know, so we're not finding out (because I could never keep something like that a secret from him)
  • We are not finding out either!  We did w/ DS and this time around I just want that moment of surprise!  Cannot wait!

  • We were thinking about him finding out and me not, but that would so totally not work with us. First of all, even though I know I don't want to know, if he found out I would probably die of curiosity and beg him to tell me and I would know by the time we got to the car! ;) And even if I didn't do that and didn't bug him about it, if we were ever shopping for baby stuff and I wanted to get something--if it was a boy he might think it was too girly or if it was a girl he might think it was too boyish and steer me towards something more for the sex of our baby, so I'd end up finding out anyways, even if he didn't mean to do it. Does that make sense? :)

Same with us!  For the exact same reason... there really aren't any other BIG surprises left.  Well, maybe until grandchildren!

  • We are finding out.  I can't wait to shop for my LO and get gender specific stuff!  Plus I think it is a surprise regardless of when you find out : )

  • We're not! Although, MW said it might be twins, so I have to talk to DH about finding out sex(es) if it is in fact twins. I think that would make life so much easier.

  • Nope, and I agree with the surprises thing. People know too much about anything these days, why not be surprised about having a son or daughter?

But like you, we may find out with the next one.

Our race has reproduced for tens of thousands of years not knowing, it won't kill us to have a surprise as well :) I think that's part of the fun of pregnancy - daydreaming about either one!

This is how my husband feels, so we won't be finding out the gender until birthday, either :)

We are. I think it will help us bond more with the baby, especially DH.

  • Raises hand!

We are not finding out either.  DH wants to but I don't and he didn't want to share names and I was okay with it so our agreement was no name sharing and no gender.  GL!

I think we aren't going to share potential names with family or friends anymore either because everytime we think we are going to use one someone has to dislike it. It'd be so much easier just naming them because then people won't be rude enough to say they don't like the name!! :)

  • I 100 % absolutely agree-  I am so easy at finding out surprises, and DH can't keep a surprise secret to save his life, so this is the one true surprise we have in life.  Plus i think it adds to his participation in the birth because he can go announce it and make the phone calls with the great news!  We aren't finding out.  DH would be happy to know, but he's ok not knowing....  i want a surprise.  It's hard and sometimes I want to know so I can buy a little outfit or something, but it'll be worth it in the long run.

  • We aren't... I was always a team green, but became wishy-washy on it when the stick turned blue... but DH doesn't want to know.

Today I found out that my pregnant coworker/ friend will be finding out next  Wednesday... before she didn't want to know and her BF did, I found I was disappointed about not having the surprise!

So there it is... I am excited about not finding out. And to avoid temptation we will be telling the tech right at the beginning that we don't want to know... then they don't have to let us know if LO showed the goodies or not.

  • We're keeping it a secret too!  I say that exactly...There are so few surprises left in life and we'd like this to be one of them.

I'll be surprised. At 20 weeks.

Just jokin'. I didn't think I wanted to know back when we were trying...I was all prepared to be team green and wait it out. Then I got pregnant and realized I want to know SO BAD. So, I'm not going to drive myself nuts denying the urge. To each her own!

  • We're not finding out, either. DH really wants it to be a surprise, and I could really go either way... so I decided to go with what he wants and not find out.

I think the hardest part will be at the anatomy scan when the ultrasound tech will clearly know the gender-- it's going to be so frustrated to know that someone knows and that we can't find out. I hope we don't give in to the temptation!

  • We're not finding out.  We did with our first but want to be surprised with this one since its been so long :-)
  • Add us to the list - not finding out either!  My best friend is due in December and isn't either.  We're a minority =) and that's OK!

  • We're not finding out, but I'm really curious to see how it turns out for those of you that aren't finding out, but your DH/bf are.  My poor friend found out at 37w with her first b/c it slipped.  Maybe I could have my mom or somebody find out, but since my DH lives with me and I know him so well it would be impossible!

  • We aren't finding out either.  Didn't with # 1 and won't with # 2.

If you need more ammo to throw at all of the people who think you are crazy, there is a lot of research that supports waiting.  B/c of the extra anticipation of finding out the gender, your body produces more endorphins, which mask pain during labor.  In studies, women who didn't know the gender had shorter and less painful deliveries b/c the body had the extra endorphins and anticipation.

     Pretty cool, huh?

  • So here is our crazy scheme. This is our #4. We have everything we need. He wants to find out. I don't. Our plan is that at level 2 ultrasound apt, we will share our plans with technician. Anytime gender is near the picture, tech needs to tell me (I studied ultrasound gender pics like crazy when I was pregnant with my first and feel fairly confidant what I'd be looking for). Husband will find out from ultrasound tech the gender..he will NOT share the news with anyone. I will remain in the dark. We've already picked 1 boy name and 1 girl name. We are moving next summer, so baby doesn't need a nursery and will be in our room until the move. Husband will announce sex when baby is born. We will see if we can pull this off. It's obviously going to have to be highly orchestrated for someone (medical staff especially) not to slip. If I find out before hand, no big deal.

  • In my ideal world, this is what happens:

DH finds out and I don't. This will be OK because he and my parents are amazing at keeping secrets. For the baby shower, there will be a pile of gender neutral gifts and a pile of gifts that are gender specific for those who know. We will open the gender neutral gifts, and safe the gender specific ones for when the baby is born.

We will see if this works. I have faith! haha
