NBR: I am so thankful for Alabamas COL

It's scary to think what other places cost to live.  A girl over on D&R posted asking how much her house would cost in the area where others live.  Here is her description:

1780 sq ft -4 Bedrooms, 2 baths, separate laundry room, car port. Roof, water heater and ac/heating unit are 5 years old. The carpet needs to be replaced

Some people said that would cost 500k plus! where they live.  Others said 300plus and then some where similar to the COL as here.

So yeah I am thankful for Alabama's relatively low cost of living.

  • Holy crap.  I should post my house's specifics over there and blow their minds on the cost of ours!

  • I've said the same thing.  Especially when watching those shows on HGTV and find out how much the house really is and you find out the house is like 500sqft.  It blows my mind the COL in other places.  I'm wondering if people in other areas just make that much more monthly than we do here.

They do make more but when you look at the COL it's virtually the same.  Teachers in Los Angeles start out at 70,000 but COL is so high out there that it's virtually the same as what starting out teachers make here.

  • I am too! I am also thankful that Huntsville hasn't been hit too hard by the economy. I really do like living in Alabama. I have lived other places and Alabama may have their share of crazies, but it's a great place to live!
