Daycare Question (days): Leanna please come in!

Hey, so I was thinking about taking Abraham to daycare 3 days a week (MWF). I thought it would be perfect because really that's all I NEED. Well, apparently when I left him yesterday he cried a little and when I went to pick him up he was crying again (it was nap time). I told the lady that I would pick him up right before nap time because that would give me enough time to do what I needed to do. Anyhow, she told me yesterday that she thinks he would be better off going every day even if it was only for a couple of hours, so that he could adapt. I was wondering, should I just take him every day even though I don't need to or do you think if I take him Tues,Wed,Thurs consecutively every week it would be the same idea??

Thanks! This is really driving me nuts. He's going back tomorrow and Friday again. I'm just not sure what to do next week:/.

Re: Daycare Question (days): Leanna please come in!

  • I would do one of those things, yes.  Either tues, wed, thurs or every day.  I'm very happy that alexis goes every day.  It was easier for her to adjust quickly, by day 4 she was fine.  I think that if she was going 3 days, then she would have had a weekend before the 4th day and it would have set her back.  Plus, she loves school and is so happy there, that I really think it's good for her.  She gets so much more out of it being in school than she would just being with me now, so I'm glad she's going 5 days.

  • Do you think I should take him tomorrow and friday though? Or do you think I should just let him start off fresh neXt week?

  • Take him otherwise it's too many days in between and you'll be starting over getting him used to it.  He'll be ok.  As soon as he gets used to the routine of it and realizes that you will come back and get him every day, he'll be fine and enjoy it. He will also bond with his teachers which makes it easier for him.

  • Butting in... I had no intention of putting sebastian in every day at school last year. He went M W F until noon. It was HELL, he cried all the time, I struggled everyday, to the point where I was just going to pull him out. The teacher suggested we bring him everyday (only until noon) and the kid started loving school. Dropping him off was a breeze and he never cried again!
  • Zoe went Tues/Thurs last year and now she goes Mon/Wed/Fri. I've never had an issue with adjustment. I think it just depends on he kid??  On non-school day, I just remind her the night before that she gets to spend the day with mommy, and on school nights we talk about what she's gonna do in school the next day, and she's fine with both.

totally depends on the kid. Nate and Sebastian are night and day when it comes to routines and adjusting to it. Nate is very flexible, and Sebastian not so much, he likes things to be the same a lot.
  • Thanks so much for all your input! I really hope he adjusts better when he starts every day.

  • I'm a little late on this- but I think in the long run it will be better for the both of you. Once you have the baby you don't have to stress about watching over 2 kiddies. Abe can stay in daycare and you can rest and enjoy your day with the baby. Besides its a great time for him to interact with other kids his age as maybe practice for when little brother comes! I'm sure he will do just fine and you can enjoy the days where you don't have to do anything and just rest bc you will need it once baby #2 comes! ;)
  • Thanks again ladies:) Quick update: When we got there he was clinging on to me and wouldn't let go though for like 5min, but I was expecting worse. I ended up staying and talking to the lady for like 10min. While I was talking to her he walked away and started playing with the other kids so I left as soon as I got a chance. Apparently he didn't notice I was gone until an hour after I left! He cried for less than 5min and then kept playing and when I picked him up he was just sitting there "talking" to the lady (not crying this time). So I was happy to hear the slight improvement. He refused to eat there again though, so I guess that's a work in progress, but overall I'm excited for my little big boy:)
