How on earth do I clean the straps on dd's carseat??? (marathon)

DD threw up all over herself this morning while in her car seat :(

I pulled off the cover and have washed it, but how do I clean the straps? They need to be cleaned badly! Can I just hose the whole thing down? Powerwash it? The straps don't come off, do they?

tia!

  • The straps do come off, I've taken the whole thing apart before without reading the directions first that tell you not too, lol.  But I think they are just worried about people putting it back together correctly, but it's not hard to do.

  • You spot clean them with water and vinegar. Then, sun them to dry.

Yes, they do come off. Just don't wash them in the washer. It tells you in the manual to not submerge them in water. You can also order new ones from the Britax website.

  • I had to take apart without reading the manual too due to puking and it was really easy. I took the whole thing apart so I could wash the cover and clean the straps. I even took off the gray parts on the belt to wash them.

  • I've used a toothbrush + vinegar/water to clean car seat straps.

  • Exact same thing happened to me Friday. Took all the straps off and the cover and threw it in the washing machine - gentle cycle. Threw the cover in the dryer and hung the straps to dry. Looks brand new! I had to hand wash a piece of the foam to get the puke off, I don't think the foam would with stand a washing cycle.

You should order replacement straps ASAP - they are not meant to be washed.

    Ditto this!

Submerging straps in water (especially in the washing machine) weakens the fibers. You should replace your straps ASAP.
