Traveling

Does anyone have any trips planned during the first trimester? My sister is getting married in Florida and then me and my DH are going on a cruise for a week to the Caribean next month! I'm hoping M/S doesn't kill the trips! Anyone else?!

Re: Traveling

  • We have a trip planned to Aruba in mid-October.  I'm a little worried about it too.  I'll see my doctor before the vacation so I plan on asking her for her thoughts about going on vacation at 8 wks.

  • We just did a 10 day trip from Alaska to ND through Canada. Then again, I found out on the trip that I was pg, so I don't think that really counts! lol We don't have anything planned but basically that's due to work schedule (DH's, I'm currently unemployed) and us just moving to our new base.

I hope your m/s doesn't hinder your fun! I'm crossing my fingers for you. Enjoy FL (that's my home!) and hopefully the hurricanes will stay away.

  • I'm traveling a lot for work over the next few weeks, I have 3 work trips scheduled, a wedding in NC and then Jer and I are going to Florida for his 30th bday the last week of October.  So all together I'll be on a plane about 5 times over the course of the next 6 weeks.  When I spoke with my doctor he said I had nothing to worry about.

  • I honestly think planes might be smoother traveling than car/bus trips.  My sister-in-law is also pregnant and we took a 2.5 hour bumpy bus ride when she was at around 15 weeks.  Poor thing had to throw up in a plastic bag during the trip.  She's never had car/motion sickness before. I would try to prepare by considering taking some crystallized ginger or sea bands.  I know that I will be traveling some during 1st tri and I'm just going to cross my fingers.
  • yes, i have an out of town obligation at 7.5 weeks and i am dreading it to be honest.  Sad

  • Nothing as fun as your trips, but I'm about to head out for a work trip. I'll be meeting up with my boss (who lives/works in a different state) and she doesn't know I'm PG yet. I know she'll be really great about it, but I'm not ready to tell her, so I'm really praying my MS doesn't decide to kick now.

I have another trip planned next month to see DH's family. If all goes well until then, I think that's when we're going to tell his family.

  • We took a 2-week road trip starting when I was about 5w and ending right before 7w. My m/s really started during the trip and kind of took away from it since I wasn't able to enjoy most food and we were eating restaurant food the entire time (gag).

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find ginger ale these days! No gas stations/convenience stores had it...I subsisted on Sprite for a lot of car time.

  • In mid October we are driving to Gettysburg from Michigan which is a long car ride without M/S.  I hope I don't have any going through the mountains  if so I'm going to be pretty miserable  lol

  • We were planning a camping trip to Colorado in October but H is now going with two of his guy friends. I just can't see camping in a tent in the mountains being fun at about 8 weeks pregnant, not to mention the 14 hour car ride there.

We are planning a trip in mid-January though but I think that will be better because I'll be 20ish weeks then.

  • Hi! I was worrying about this too. We are taking a long weekend trip to Dallas. I will be about 6 week (I think) I was concerned about flying but everything I read on these boards shows and the web show that it is safe to fly. I have seabands so those will be on (if I get m/s).

I surprised my DH with Cowboys tickets so it isn't like we can back out!

Good luck with the traveling! The PP's made some good points about trying to keep m/s at a distance!

    Enjoy!
