Anybody else completely overwhelmed by registeries?

Take the 'list' they give you and cut it in about half....most of it is NOT necessary at all.

Thanks! Everytime I start looking at all this stuff, I usually give up and go eat. Even though I keep saying I'm going to have this done by the end of this week.

When you go to register, take a copy of Baby Bargains and friend who has given birth in the past 2 years ... 12 months would be even better.

We bought baby bargins and made a list from there then registered. Those check lists the store's give your are crazy...way too much stuff on them. Also, ask any friends/family that have kids.

My bossy SIL just had her baby about a year and a half ago. So maybe I'll pop some Benadryl and take her with me. ; ) LOL She's the one that's been on my butt about the registry.

Talk to other mommies and ask what they recommend and what was useless. Ask any pregnant friends (if you have them) to look at their registry. Look online for the top rates items- Babies r us lets you sort that way. Baby bargains is a great resource as well for narrowing down the best items. The bump and tons of other websites have a registry list so you can use as a guide. Follow it for most things, but clothing I think they over-estimate.

LOL I just hate registries. I hated doing our wedding one with a passion. I guess I just hate having a list of things I "want" for people to get me. Weird, I know. Our wedding registry was the bare minimum.

We registered this past weekend and Baby Bargains was my best friend! I can't keep my nose out of that book! Plus recs from other new mommies have really helped too.

And I'd also like to thank Starbucks and the pumpkin spice latte for giving me the caffeine buzz that I needed to get through BRU & Target in one day! LoL!

i keep putting mine off but this is THE weekend...I'm determined to get it done...but how do you know what brands are good or whats on recall? I have 2 girlfriends that are pregnant...one is due any day now and the other is due 5 weeks before me so I'm hoping just to pretty much copy theirs HAHA

Just remember that all baby items have to meet the same safety standards. So it doesn't matter if you spend $99 or $799 on a crib, they both have to pass the same safety tests

haha yeah I totally skipped the clothes section. WAY too much stuff in there and I figure people are going to buy clothes whether you register for them or not.

It was awful to register, but just remember that you can always add or change things later. Before I registered I asked all of my friends with kids to tell me what 1 thing they couldn't have done without. Then after I registered I had one of them look over my registry and tell me what I forgot or what was probably a waste of money. I didn't register for any clothes because I figured people would just buy me what they thought was cute anyways. I've already gone back twice and have changed things online.

A baby registry is more overwhelming than a bridal registry. I have been putting off adding more than the big stuff because I have no idea where to start. This is my first, too, so I'm more like Tongue Tied

I'll help you a little bit, don't register for clothes, socks, bibs, blankets or hats. If you have a baby shower, or even if you don't, you will get a ton of items like that as gifts. The best thing to do is to make a list of the big ticket things you need/want (like the stroller, car seat, swing, bouncer, bottles, playmat, exersaucer, etc.) and go in to the store and look at the display models and decide based on that. And then you can add a lot of the little stuff later. I will say you don't need a wipes warmer, bottle warmer, the childproofing stuff (you can buy outlet covers on your own time, you know?) and many things the stores will try to get you to add. Just start small and have fun with it!

I did one at Babies R Us and I had to bring my mom...this being my first baby and all she helped a lot.

Eventually I am going to make another for Target, just so people have selection since my hubby's family is mostly out of state.

My husband and I thought it would be "fun" to register one day when we were bored, boy were we wrong! We walked out of Babies R Us two hours later exhausted with eyes glazed over. I am planning on taking a friend who had a baby about 3 months ago with me when I go again. I also read a newer post on here that asked other moms for one necessary thing and one thing that was unnecessary, it really helped. I have been adding and deleting online almost everyday, its like a bad obsession. I hope to be finished soon so that this can be done with!
