Hello! (intro) & ?s
Hello ladies!
We are making the move to Minneapolis very soon (sometime in November) from Atlanta and we couldn't be more excited! We visited the city this past summer and just fell in love with everything there so, we had countless conversations about when would be the best time for us to leave Atlanta and we decided the sooner the better 
We are planning on renting an apartment in the downtown area--Loring Park to be specific. I am currently a SAHM/full-time online student and my boyfriend works for a company owned by US Bank. We have the best baby boy on the planet--although I may be a tad biased 
-- named Jake. He's 7 1/2 months and growing fast. We're moving the Minneapolis to get a fresh start for our new family--we love the welcoming and friendly atmosphere of the city. We are in to outdoors/nature related activities: hiking, camping, hanging out on the lake/by the pool, my S/O is new to kayaking and looking forward to snowboarding, and I have a new found love for yoga although I'm very new to it all. We are hoping to find a great church for young families to attend once we get settled--so if you attend one that you'd recommend, please do so!
While I have a thousand and one questions constantly popping up in my head about the city, I'll try to limit myself to just a few! First, please recommend your pediatrician--again we will be in the downtown area and we will have a car but planning to primarily depend on light rail/buses/walking. Second, how do you keep your LO's bundled up in such cold weather? Like I said, we will primarily be using public transit so, how do I keep DS warm and toasty from point A to point B? And lastly (for now), when it is in the dead of winter and there is tons of snow on the ground, how to you tote your child around? Umbrella or jogging stroller? Baby carrier? I was wondering if there would be too much snow on the sidewalks to use our Maclaren Volo.

Like PP has side a think snow suit would work great if they are not in his carseat. We have a City Mini & it dose really well on the snowy walk ways but they normally really keep it nice & clean so you should not have to big of problem. I could not recommend doing a baby carriers as the chances of slipping on ice.
I know you have not ask this question (yet) but I am sure you are thinking about it.... What kid of things are there to do when the weather is to cold to be outside? There are a lot of fun stuff Like every Tuesday there is a fun "free" event called Toddler Tuesday at MOA (check there website for more info) also there is weekly story time at the library right in downtown (info below ) I have not been to this library but we go to the Story times near us & love them. Plus if your LO is a fan of seeing animals the MNzoo is a great place to go (membership starts around $70).

Hello and welcome! I'd maybe recommend investing in a good carrier like an ergo to carry your son around. That way you wouldn't have to worry about loading a stroller on the bus. I think you'll love that area that you're planning on moving to in the city. I'm jealous! I'd also look into ECFE (early childhood family education) classes in the area. It'd be a great place to meet other moms.

Also, we go to Partners In Pediatrics (pipstop.com) in Brooklyn Park. It might not be to far of a drive from where you are going to be living. The clinic is close to 94/252.

Partners in Peds has an uptown location - I just got an email notice that they are moving to a new location at Calhoun (I am guessing Cal Square?) . This is a lot closer to the Loring Park and on the bus line.
MOVING? What? I didn't get the notice yet. I am a little sad, my mom went to that location as a child, as did I and now my daughter. . . it is small though.
Hey there-
My husband and I go to Substance church. It's not downtown, but it's worth the drive. They don't have their own building yet, so they hold service at both Northwestern College and Fridley Highschool. Really only takes about 10-15 min to get there from downtown. There are tons of young families and they have childcare for all services. I will say that it can be hard to meet people since there are 2 services at each location every Sunday. But if you get connected in some of the small groups that will help. Check out their website.
Someone else mentioned that they keep the streets/sidewalks pretty clean. So true. I walk to work every morning and whenever there is a storm there are plows and sidewalk sweepers out very early. I hardly ever have to tromp through tons of snow. And if they don't get out there, everyone either calls into work or shows up late-it's just an understanding we all have:) Welcome to Minneapolis-you will love living downtown!!
