Constipated Baby

Parker is only 12 days old and is constipated.  I feel so sorry for him.  What can I do?  My MIL said to add a little Karo syrup to every other bottle.  Does this work?  Do you recommend anything else for me to try?  We have a Pediatrician visit tomorrow morning and I plan on bring it up then.  TIA

    Have you tried gripe water? it might be gassiness

    or even just doing a rectal temp check would help us get things going :)

    Are you BF or using formula?  It might be the formula if you are FF, we had to try a few before we found one that didn't back James up. We would bicycle his legs, do a warm bath (has his cord stump fallen off?) and eventually had to use a glycerin suppository (per his pedi).  Good luck!

    A warm bath seemed to help Bri.  Hope little man gets some relief.

    we had to use Prune Juice....I tried the gerber Apple Prune, but it didn't work so we always had to buy the adult prune juice...it' had to be pasturized I believe but it's out there, we mixed it with her formula.

    This exactly except we cut it with water.  Miller is 2 months old and we're experiencing these same kinds of problems now and our pedi told us about the prune juice.  I would ask your dr. though because you don't want him to get dehydrated from going to much once you get him flowing :-) Plus like Amy said, we had to try several different kinds of formula before we hit the right kind.

    While we were in the hospital with Ella she got constipated. The doctors there prescribed her Miralax. We only used 1 TBSP in her bottle. It seemed to work well. They said the Miralax worked more natural then most things. It also doesn't cause cramps or anything.

    I would be VERY VERY hesitant to give a 12 day old baby prune juice - watered down or not or Karo Syrup - I think that is more of a 'thing our moms used to do'.  Definitely talk to your pedi first about what you can do.  If you're FF, he might need a different formula, if you're nursing, try cutting out dairy for a few days.
