1st bday party locations (winter)

After attending a 1st birthday party yesterday, it got me thinking about my baby's birthday which is January 31st - we have a TINY house, there is no way everyone would fit in there, and obviously, a backyard BBQ is out of the question. It seems like any of the normal kids bday party locations would be kind of a waste for a 1 year old, since she won't be old enough to enjoy most of the activities.

Any suggestions for locations, preferably in St. Paul or Minneapolis?

  • What about renting out space at a community center? I know that E.P. has a great one with a indoor play area we looked into it before just picking a park to party at.

  • I am likely having Ellie's here in February.

It is where I had my wedding and baby showers.  It is a nice facility, has tables, chairs and a kitchen.  I think a rental for 4 hours is about $100.

  • We did Livie's 1st Birthday party at Eagle's Nest in New Brighton.

It worked out really well, and we would definitely do it again :)

(we are in the same boat as you, with a teeny tiny house, and birthday-timing that doesn't work for an outdoor party)

  • Thanks for the ideas!  I'll have to see if there are similar locations closer to our house - we COULD have it at my parents' house, but I'm kind of sick of doing that all the time - I feel like a kid having a party at their house, you know?

Most of the places I know where you can rent out rooms are bars, and that just seems somehow inappropriate :)

  • How about Edinborough Park in Edina?  I know the little ones are too small for adventure peak, but there is a nice toddler area adjacent to it as well as an open gym with scooters and balls.  Not sure what their pricing is, but it's a fun indoor location.

We had looked into that Edinborough park but they only alone 10 people per party (or something close to that) but if it was not for that rule that place would be a really cool party area

  • I'm having the same issue. Bella's birthday is Nov and we have a very tiny house. I have looked into places but everything is has a guest number restriction. We might just have it at my moms place. I hate to but its kind of the only option we have.

Yup, I'm thinking that's what we'll have to do....... ugh.  Oh well!  I made a tentative guest list and it's around 50 with just our immediate family and close friends, so most places that are affordable would be too small.

  • That's always my issue as well. January birthday and February birthday, small house :(

We had DS's first birthday party at my parents' house. That worked out well. His second birthday was at the little gym, and his third birthday was bowling.

For DD, I'm thinking we'll do it at my parents' house again. I don't really want to pay to rent a place, and I can't think of a place around where we live so hopefully they won't mind having it at their house!
