Do you know what the policy is in your town about who the bus driver can drop your dc with? Can they drop off dc with a neighbor or relative without your permission or do you need to send a note to the school if someone lese will be meeting dc at teh bus stop on a certain day?
I ask because week 1 of kindergarten ds got off at the wrong bus stop. We live in a neighborhood where the bus stops are at the end of each street. I can see the bus stop before ours from my street. Ds got off at that bus stop by accident. A neighbor (who I know but ds doesn't) got him.
I was mad because I don't think the bus driver should of let him get off with that neighbor. She realized as soon as she saw my dh that she made a mistake. But she did not have our permission to give him to someone else, so why would she?
Does your school have a policy about this?
**We did speak to her and ds about it.
Re: What is your school bus policy?
Having been a school bus driver, our school district doesn't have a specific policy about who can pick up the children from the bus. There are too many different scenarios.
Give the lady a break it's the beginning of the school year she as up to 72 different children to drive safely from the school to home and she's still getting to know the route, the kids and who is normally at the bus stop.
Your child is supposed to be responisble for knowing which stop to get off at.
I did give her a break. I didn't yell at her. I was very nice and just introduced myself formally so that she would know me especially because it is usually DH who is at the bus stop.
I was wondering because my SIL said that she has to write a note to the school and the person picking up at the bus stop has to present the bus driver with a permission note.
And I don't agree that it is up to a kindergartener on the first week to know when it is his bus stop. the first week they are just learning this and i think need help from the bus driver and the parents.
For kindergarteners only, there is a written permission slip that we had to fill out during the first week that listed each person allowed to pick up our child, and they will confirm ID. In the first week confusion I would be willing to bet she hadn't learned everyones faces. Our bus driver knows our son by name and asks each child before they get off who it is that is at the bus stop to pick them up. After kindergarten they are on their own.
When my son was in kindergarten at his first school, they let all the kids get off with pretty much anyone. I didn't like that at all...
At his new school, they make the kindergartners sit at the front of the bus and will not let them get off the bus until they see a parent/caretaker at the stop. One time Caleb had to go for an extra ride because I lost track of time and missed the bus. The school called me to ask where I was...they brought him back around.
Now that he's in second grade, we have a new bus driver and she doesn't ever look for me. She does have a list of which kids get off where.
