We have this one, and love it. It has quite a few different sounds to choose from, plus a combo setting (where you can mix two sounds together, like rain/thunder or ocean/buoy) and a random setting. Also, has batteries (takes 4 AA) for portability or a cord for plugging it in.
$10 box fan. Makes noise and keeps the air circulating, which is recommended for the prevention of SIDS. It really does drown out the majority of other household noise too. Also, much easier to find in the event it needs replaced because your child has become dependent on it to sleep. 1ht
We have an ipod dock in his room and have a white noise CD downloaded from Itunes. It's called "Relaxing White noise: soothing sounds for baby relaxation and sleep." It has rain, streams, crickets, etc. We play it on repeat in his room...we also have a humidifier going in there.
The good thing about this is - I can have it on my Iphone so if he's getting fussy somewhere I can put this on and it calms him down! You can also make a CD to take places or to put in the car .

We have this one too. The first one we had died after a month, and the company sent me a replacement for free, which then started crackling after a couple of weeks. Now we're using the Baby Crack Machine. DS just noticed the lights on the ceiling last night, so hopefully he'll get the full affect of it now. But just the sound alone was good enough before, and it's got the loudest volume of any of the sound machines we've messed with.

A 10 gallon fish tank that sits on her dresser with her angel fish in it. Also when you're in DD's bedroom you can hear our 75 gallon fish tank gurgling and humming away.

We have this one too and it is awesome. We plug it in so no battery issues and it stays on all night.
