Daycare Issue

So we are having some major problems with our daycare.  We have been extremely blessed that James just started 3 weeks ago.  He only goes a half day, 3 days a week.  My mom has him the rest of the time. He's actually only been 5 days due to him getting really sick the first week (and then hospitalized!). But a lot has happened in those 5 days to make us question our daycare.  This is what happened this morning.

James gets 5 oz bottles approximately every 3 hours. If its one where he gets solids b/t bottles, he can go 4 hours or so. So he got his first bottle at 6:15 this morning and got to daycare around 7ish. Well, they gave him 2 bottles and a 4oz thing of veggies by 10:30! And then wrote on his sheet: "had to give him a bottle, he was crying" Am I wrong to be very upset? That's half his formula intake for the day! We do not use food as a pacifier so its not as if he expects it.

Re: Daycare Issue

  • I don't think you're over reacting at all.  Sounds like instead of taking the time to hold him and soothe him, they just want a quick fix.  You should talk to the manager.  If you still don't feel at ease get recs for a new daycare.  Sorry you're having issues.

  • Of course, I asked this on the national boards and they said its no big deal.
  • I would be very upset.  I would read it as "kid was crying, had to shut him up."  There are other ways to comfort a child besides instantly turning to food.

  • Wow, I'm amazed that he wasn't sick with all of that in such a short time.  I would be upset mainly because it seems that they just gave him food to keep him happy instead of stimulating him another way.  Did he finish each bottle and the veggies, sometimes Miller just wants a "snack" and he'll mess around and drink 2oz instead of 4. I would definitely speak to someone up there and find out why they didn't stick to your plan and schedule/feeding times.
  • I'm like Casie I am amazed that didn't make him sick.  I would have a serious issue with that.  You have a schedule for a reason, and it sounds like they didn't try anything else to soothe him.  Someone needs to clue them in that being hungry isn't the only reason a baby cries.  And what sucks is that either a) he's going to have more formula than he is used to in a day now, and/or b) you are going to be up with him tonight because he is hungry because he had the majority of his food this morning.

I'm just flabbergasted that they fed him 10 ounces and gave him 4oz's in less than 4 hours!  This makes me upset for you, but I am a control freak when it comes to Aubrey's schedule so seeing something like this wouldn't be cool in my book.
