POLL: Are you a collector of anything?

Growing up, I collected flamingo stuff.

Then I started a Fiestaware collection.  But when I got married 5 years ago (and inspired by the Barefoot Contessa) I got white dishes and serving pieces.

Before C, I also liked handbags/clutches.

I also went through a paper phase, including notecards.

I am a collector/hoarder of jewelry (I go through phases - statement necklaces, coctial rings, etc.), scarves and decorative paper napkins and serving pieces, cake plates being my favorite, but also platters and bowls.  And I love glassware!

  • I collect rosaries. Well, catholic art in general. The more gaudy the better. Like my virgin mary and virgin de guadelupe touch lamps :)

  • I collect law enforcement mugs, but I only accept the ones given to me by actual employees of that agency.  I like knowing the people so there is as story behind it...like my USSS mug from an agent...good story there....that started this whole collection.

I think it just sullies the collection to try and obtain them by just buying them.  But that is just me. ;)

Still working on an FBI mug...

  • Vintage Nancy Drew books and milk glass.
  • Vintage blue Ball (and a few other random brands) canning jars.  I use them around the house and one of my favorites held my bouquet at my wedding.  It says "Everlasting" and when DS was born, DH brought me roses from my garden in it. :)
  • I guess you could say I collect books.  You only have to come a few feet into my home to see that I have at least a thousand of them, not including what the kids have.  I don't really consider it a collection though.

I used to collect bobbin lace bobbins and slew of various Victorian and Deco needlework tools and toiletry items like glove pullers, stretchers, button hooks, and shoe clips.  Curiously, my SMIL also has a small collection of similar Victorian items.

My desire to collect mesh Deco handbags ended when I found the be-all-end-all perfect piece for my collection on Ebay.  And the box was lost by the postal service.  Getting my money back doesn't mean a lot when I'll never be able to replace a one of a kind antique.  I'm still pissed about it.

  • I used to pick up keychains wherever I went. I haven't done that in awhile. Otherwise does collecting all sort of scrap stuff (paper, stickers, embellies, etc) count? ;)
  • I collect Precious Moments figurines.  I get maybe 1 or 2 a year.  Usually a romantic one from DH and a Christmas one from MIL.

I also collect books.  I have a hard time letting them go, and because of that I try to buy hard backs of the ones I really like so i can let the paper back ones go.

My H would say I collect dogs though I don't want any more then the 3 we have.

  • I used to collect masks and shot glasses.  Then I collected planet paperweights from Glass Eye Studio until I had all of the planets.  It took quite a while to collect all of them as they are blown glass and expensive.

  • I collect Alice in Wonderland things and Pez dispensers.
  • I have tons of CD's but I don't really think of that as a collection. although I guess it is. I think of collecting as something that has no use other than that it looks cool or has some meaning to someone.

  • I have a huge magnet collection as DH gets me one every time he travels for work (which is too often). Unfortunately, our new fridge isn't magnetic so I have nowhere to display my magnificent magnet collection.
