I want to ask yalls opinion on something and I don't want you to think bad of my DH or flame me. It has to do with naming this LO.
When you hear certain names, do you think of one race more than another?
We are trying to pick out names for this LO and DH doesn't want the name to "typically" be more race specific. I think that the person makes the name. Is anyone else having this issue when selecting names? How are you dealing with this?
I hope this doesn't offend anyone, that is not my intention.

Re: not trying to cause a stir, just have a ?
I don't think it's an offensive question at all.
If I hear the name Giuseppe, I automatically think Italian.
Is that what you mean???
sort of yes! I just don't think that my names denote one race or another and I don't think it even matters. But DH is being picky and not giving any good other suggestions, only no's.
We both want a name selected before the u/s next week. So we can name the baby. We have a boy's name selected just can't agree on a girls name.

I do understand what you mean. Would you feel comfortable to share some of the names you're thinking and we will give our opinion?
I've found with names that there are names I really like but I've known some troublesome kids so I won't pick those.
Honestly, yes, there are some names that are very specific. We have one of them - Ciara - it's Gaelic and there is no mistaking that. My brother named his little guy Aiden - again, Gaelic. If I hear Rajesh, Indian etc.
I agree with the pp - maybe if you are comfortable sharing the names?

The names are Jeanette and Jeanesa that DH is worried about; I have known both black and white women with these names and so I am comfortable with them. I really want a girl to be 4th generation with "jean" in the first name.
What is your initial reaction when you hear those names?

Now how do I just convince him to let me name this child the way I want to!

What Are Your Thoughts on Tap Dancing Penguins?
I think that's a pretty name and honestly I don't think of any race with that one. I see Jeanette and I think older white woman. Just my two cents.
You just tell him that you carry the baby - you make the decisions. j/k
My MN is Jeanette and I'm 1/2 black 1/2 mexican....it's my paternal grandmother's 1st name...she's black (and indian somewhere wayback). But my MIL (who is a very white southerner) is a Janet.
I've always loved Jenessa and know of black/white/hispanic women (and little girl) with it. One of the clients at work had a little Jenessa (mixed) and we all called her Nessie when she was cranky...she was a cutie!!

Yes. LoL. I do not think those names are race specific at all. My DH did this to me with one of my fav girl names and I ended up just letting it go because I found another I loved. As far as how to convince him, show him this thread!
neither of those names make me think of any race.
I know exactly what you mean. I had this issue with my DH. I am half-Mexican and there are very few Hispanic names in my immediate family. Seriously my grandparents named their kids Silverio Jr (there is the 1 Hispanic name, well along with that being my grandfathers name), Harvey, Nancy, and Scott. So it's not important to me to have any Hispanic names but there are a few that I like and would have liked to throw in the ring, like Pilar for a girl, but DH was very against it since our child would only be a quarter Mexican and it's not a tradition in our family. He felt like it would be odd not only for his family but for mine as well.
We also had this issue when I had kinda made up some names for a boy. I like things that are different and I'm a bit of a rocker chick. I came up with Maxton (because I liked Max but not Maxwell or Maximillian or even just Max) and Roxon (pronounced Rockson). I'm not saying either of them were the greatest thing ever but I liked them. DH however said they sounded completely made up (which they were but all names are at some point in time!) but he said that it didn't sound like a white name. I couldn't convince him otherwise but I also think that he was set on Jackson from the beginning!
ETA: The only Jenessa I ever knew was black. Oddly enough (my name is Vanessa), I used to get a lot of mail addressed to Janessa (I think because of the way I would write my V) but I always thought it was goofy (goofy that someone would mistake the name, not the name itself!)
Sorry, I am just now getting back, I was needed to actually do work and then we did a house project all last night.
Thanks for all the support ladies, once again yall ROCK!
I tried to slip in the Jeanessa last night in conversation, but it didn't work. I am going to show him this thread and maybe that will help sway. Of course, I will not be naming our child without his approval. Hopefully, this LO is a boy and it will be a non-issue (for now)!
