Babies: 3 - 6 Months

At whate age did your LO laugh? And "talk"?

DD smiles at us all the time and looks like she's going to laugh out loud but she hasn't yet. And she'll coo every once in a while. I looked back at DS's baby book and by 12 weeks he was cooing and "talking" back to us constantly and laughed out loud the first time at 11 weeks. I know all kids are different... just curious what other LO's around this age are doing?

Re: At whate age did your LO laugh? And "talk"?

  • DS started cooing around 8 weeks or so and now has all sorts of different "words".  He doesn't laugh yet though.  Sometimes he coughs and it kinda sounds like a laugh.

  • LO gets excitedly, happy about things but hasn't truly laughed just yet.

We had a 5-10 minute "conversation" last night.

  • DD started cooing to herself around 9weeks. Around 10 weeks she became more conversational with it and in the last three weeks she'll respond to singing (and changes pitch along with us, it's nuts!).

She sometimes makes a laughing sound, the kind when you breath in and make a growly noise, but I'm not sure if she is just excited and breathing funny or if she is trying to laugh...and that's almost always at her hanging playmat toys, not at mommy Stick out tongue

  • my LO has been "talking" a little bit for a few weeks.  she recently in the past week or two has started screeching on a regular basis and her crying/whining has turned kind of chatty.  she hasn't really laughed yet but i've gotten a beavis & butthead  hee-hee-hee out of her a few times.

  • DS laughed for the first time at 2.5 months, but he didn't do it again until 3 months.  At this point he laughs every day ( I LOVE it!).  I honestly can't remember when he started cooing.  Around 8 weeks maybe?
  • DD started "laughing" and "talking" around the same time, I'd say about 4 months-ish.

More recently she has figured out how to shreak/scream... Seriously, in the middle of the grocery store and all you hear is my kids blood curdling scream, and then you go to look at her to make sure she's okay and she has the hugest smile on her face like "Yah lady... I can scream if I want!" Big Smile

  • I don't remember when she started talking to us... it's been a while.  She started laughing on Aug 20th (caught on video!!!  woo hoo!).  She was 11 weeks on the dot.

  • DD laughed early on - maybe around 8 weeks or so, but it was a rare occurrence.  She gradually started laughing more and more.  Now we get laughs combined with squeals - that started about 2 weeks ago.  She started cooing and "talking" to us around 9 or 10 weeks.  She's really chatty and great at verbalizing, but when it comes to rolling over, not so much.

  • my sweet pea laughed for the first time today!!! 14.5 weeks
  • DS still hasn't laughed...he just opens his mouth really wide but no sound comes out. He's been cooing since 6 weeks and talking around 8 weeks.
