Postpartum Depression

Anxiety and Zoloft?

I started my Zoloft yesterday- 50 mg. I've felt more anxious and just worried overall since starting it. Last night i had such a hard time falling asleep because i was terrified i'd do something to DD in my sleep. I've never had thoughts of hurting DD, but i was so anxious that I would, and wouldn't know it. Is this a normal side effect? I read in the pamphlet i got with my prescription that it can occur, just wondering if any of you had it happen, and what you did about it.

Re: Anxiety and Zoloft?

  • It happened to me but it's just a generalized feeling anxiety not anything specific, I'm just trying to suffer through it.

  • I would call and discuss it with your doc. There are other meds out there you can take.

  • Thanks. I called the advice nurse and she suggested i cut it in half for a week--saying that sometimes when introducing it it can increase anxiety. So we're going to try chopping it in half for a week, when/if i feel ok on that dose then bump it up to the 50.

  • Ya thats a crazy high dose to start on. Its going to over stimulate your body. You can always see about taking an anti anxiety with it like clonazepam (which u CAN BF on). It would be short term till the zoloft finds it place
  • As a therapist (and a PPD survivor--thanks to Zoloft!) I have to say that 50mg is a high dose to start on. 25 mgs is reccommended and some docs even do 12.5mg.

    Feel better soon!
