He's never been a good sleeper. We've been incredibly diligent about everything: the same bedtime routine, not always feeding him (he's 16 lbs), not always picking him up, etc. Needless to say we've tried it all, except tride and true training.
Now that he's 4 months, I'd like to start. I'm just beginning researching a few methods, from extreme to moderate. I would love advice from someone who's child does not sleep well to begin with at night (he's usually up 3-4 times between 8 PM and 7 AM), but also hasn't been let cry it out yet, or really fallen asleep on their own (he usually falls asleep eating or being rocked, walked). Basically anything we try at this point will be new to him, so I don't want to shock his system - advice from similar folks would be great, those whose babies are sleeping better than mine, I'm envious, so tell me how you got there if you were too once at this point.
Re: Sleep Training a 4 Mos old - where do we start?
We're in the exact same boat. I'm interested to see if there's anything we can try too.
i asked my pedi this at our 2 month appointment because i was having a hard time laying Samantha down for naps, and she would get over tired and it would be even WORSE.
she told me as long as all her needs are met (food diaper lovings) it was okay to lay her down and let her cry for 5 mins, then go in comfort her which ever way you choose (picking up or just pat on the back) until they finally sleep. now it doesnt work all the time but MOST of the time it does. the times it doesnt work after i have gone in 4 or 5 times i know from her cry and she will need to be cuddled and rocked to go to sleep. normally i only have to go in 3 times at most before shes a sleep.
my daughter also sleeps from 8:30pm until 4am (if not later shes slept until 8:30am)
the sleep training is a personal choice and i would talk to the pedi because everyone has mixed feelings about how and when to start sleep training or CIO
