TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Do's and Don't from Acupuncturist

During my 2 hour intake for my first appointment, the acupuncturist gave some good do's and don'ts to follow while TTC. Some are DUH, but wanted to share them with you all.

  • Do some form of exercise - she suggested fertility yoga
  • Cut back on dairy (she went into a rant about dairy not being something that we need and getting calcium from vitamins and minerals in other foods) I love dairy, so this will be hard for me.
  • Don't eat/drink things that are super cold - it slows down digestion and circulation
  • Don't drink caffeine and alcohol
  • Don't have sex during period (the blood wants to come out - no need to push it back in)
  • Use pads during period
I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I can think of right now.

I know Colinda, right? Since my AF is usually light, I guess it won't be a big deal, but I am a Tampon girl.

  • I don't put much stock in any of this, truthfully.  There are just soooo many "old wives tales" about getting KU.  I won't believe it unless there is actual scientific proof that it works, not just an acupuncturist staying... ohhh you have to do this.   I give more credence to studies like this than an acupuncturist.  Sorry.  FWIW, I DID try acupuncture and it did NOTHING for me.  Once I read up on it, I found that the most it could do is help you relax, which could aid in conception, but that is it.

Also, I am not flaming, just being upfront and honest about my opinion on this.

Also, FWIW, the bolded ones only work if you have an insulin problem like PCOS, other than that, they are irrelevant.

Actually, cow dairy is inflammatory to all humans. The protein structure is very different from human milk and even if you have no overt symptoms, it's difficult to digest and contributes to systemic inflammation. Goat dairy, on the other hand, is very similar to human milk and does not cause the same inflammation (too bad it tastes so gross) And caffeine and alcohol (in excess) have a direct negative effect on egg quality. The alcohol is really the only one of these that has a strong tie to insulin problems.

I stand corrected. Big Smile Colinda the healthy knows so much more than me on this!  Listen to her not me.

    Same here.

I'm still pissed about it b/c I wasted soooo much $$$$ on it.

I kept going b/c she kept saying, "acupuncture takes time to show results"...so 6 months later my cycles were longer than ever, and I quit.

  • I'm going to try accupuncture, just because it is covered at 100% by my insurance so why not. However, I don't put much weight in a lot of these suggestions. For instance, not having sex when you have AF because the blood is trying to get out then why put it back in....I find that ridiculous. It is loose blood. If your SO's penis pushes it back in then gravity will just send it right back out.

I also think it is a lot more important to cut back on carbs for TTC than it is to cut out dairy, base on a few books I've read.

That being said, I hope accupuncture works for you!
