3rd Trimester

Wrapping your stomach after delivery?

Is anyone trying this or know someone who did do this?  What were the results?  If you plan on doing this what product are you using?

A friend asked me just the other day if I plan on doing this & I had no clue of this option.  She mentioned it b/c she met a mother of three that did this after delivery and she had a super tight tummy.  My friend said that she would definitely try this after her next child.  I guess it's supposed to "lift" the tummy back up or something like that?

Now, I have heard from a midwife that you should stay lying down as much as possible for two weeks after delivery, so that your uterus & skin doesn't have gravity working against it while it gets back into place.  So I'm thinking there might be some merit to this wrapping your stomach thing...  What do you think?

Re: Wrapping your stomach after delivery?

  • Brooke Burke did this...she actually just launched her own line of wraps.
  • Loading the player...
  • Sounds like bunk to me......just saying.
  • Very common outside the US.
  • They look just like bella bands to me.  I'll probably throw my bella band on then!
I give up trying to add my kids' photos. Just know that they are adorable.
  •  One of my good friends, who is also pregnant, told me about this. She is planning on using an expensive girldle she had made to fit her as soon as she found out she was pregnant. She plans to wear it until 2 months PP

I live on the mexican border, my friend actually lives in mexico and crosses everyday for work. She says it is strange for people to NOT do it.

    I am considering trying it...

  • I'm doing this. Both my friend and MIL told me they did this.
  • A lot of other countries practice belly binding, but it isn't very common in America. I've seen it done with a long piece of stretchy fabric wrapped tightly and I've also seen people purchase minimizers that sort of hold everything in.
  • I would like to retract my pp.  I am the worlds biggest skeptic, but after giving it more thought, it makes sense.  Besides, it can't hurt...

That sounds like bad advice to me.

  • yes! it is very common to do it in other countries... It actually really helps! You don't have to buy anything expensive... you can have your dh tightly wrap your stomach in cloth bandages after you shower....

More so, I think it sounds completely impractical.

  • Thank you so much ladies for your input.  I'm going to look further into this since it seems to be more real then hokey.  Thank you so much for the website as well!!  Good luck with all of your deliveries!!  :)
  • I don't think it works but more power to the people who do use it, let the rest of us know how it worked out for you!
  • let us know if it works.
  • Um - the only thing that is going to lift your belly after having a baby is serious abdominal work - like crunches.

    I don't buy it.

  • this is similar in concept to wearing a band that wraps around your waist and secures with velcro during workouts (i use one when i ran, now i use it when i walk) and yes it does help...pregnant or not.

you can buy one in the sports section of target and its completely different then a bella band.  it provides way more support.  a bella band won't do anything.

i had extra skin after my 1st baby and even though i can't get rid of that it helps keep my nice and pulled in.
