Update and Q about school restructuring

I called the school board to find out how to go about transferring DS to another school and was told that the only 2 schools that he could transfer to were 2 cities away (about 45 minute drive) and that he would not be allowed to change to a closer school unless we had a change of address. So I went to their website and tried my parent's address to see what that would come up with, but they live too close to make a difference. I would love to put him in private school, but it's just not in the cards for us financially.

So my question is, do you think this is just a standard answer for the school board. Do you think if I were to make a big deal out of it they might reconsider? I did some googling and found that there are an awful lot of schools in our County being restructured.

Re: Update and Q about school restructuring

  • It all depends on the strictness of the cities rules. One city that I would love to get DD into is very strict. If I were to use my parents address (who live in that city) they would literally follow kids home that they have suspicions about to make sure they live there. Also, you can only get a work permit if both parents are working. Some districts are alot more leanient than others. Talk to other parents if you can to get their feedback about the district and their policies. Maybe they will know of someone who was in a similar situation as you.
