2nd Trimester

Short Moms (5 Feet and under)

Are you showing a lot more than others?

I keep having people tell me how pregnant I look "already" and want to bawl. My GF who is 5'2 said it's just because i'm so short (5 feet) and baby has no where to go because I don't even have like 9 inches of stomach room.

Re: Short Moms (5 Feet and under)

  • I'm under 5 feet.  Last time, people kept telling me how I didn't look pregnant at all in the first half of my pregnancy.  Then I popped around 20 weeks and the rest of my pregnancy all I ever heard was how huge I was, how I would never make it to my due date, was I sure I wasn't having twins? et cetera.

And FWIW, I was induced 7 days past my due date LOL

  • with DS I really didn't show until I was about 18 wks along. This time I started showing at around 13wks. Right now I look the way I did with DS at 24wks. Showing is not really related to how short you are but how your pelvic bone is shaped and how the baby fits in there.

  • I am 4'11 and with number 1 I didn't show to strangers until I was 24 weeks along (friends and family could tell at 18 weeks). This time friends and family can tell I am showing but only one stranger has said anything so I don't know if I count it as showing or not.

Your height doesn't matter. Short, tall, heavy, skinny, apple shaped, box shaped, we all show different.

  • I'm 4'11" and showed a little earlier with DS and this time around I feel like I started to show the day I found out I was pg. I agree that it has something to do with being short & having an almost non-existent torso.

  • I'm 4'10". I am asked at least twice a week if I'm having twins. "Are you sure there's just one in there?"

I try not to take it personally because I know I'm showing more than others at the stage. I did with DS too. It does still upset me a bit though.

  • I am 5 feet.  I normally start showing at about 20 weeks.  Everyone tells me I have a small bump, but to me it feels huge.  I think it's because my torso is so small.  I wouldn't listen to people.  A lot of them don't even know how big or small you should be.  Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different too!  I'm on my third and so far have carried all three very differently.

  • I'm 5'0" and don't think I'm "showing" yet. I probably just look like I have put on a beer gut in the past few months. But I expect it to go nowhere but out and pretty soon. My ute is already measuring 18wks.

  • I am 5 feet tall and almost 17 weeks pregnant... I definitely have a bump going and have already had to resort to maternity jeans. My hubby and the saleswoman at the maternity store agree that its because I don't have enough torso space for the baby (about 8" of stomach room here!)  I feel like I'm also feeling the baby move earlier because there's just no place for it to stretch its little arms and legs!  I guess that could be a good side to the short tummy!

  • I'm right there with ya - on a good day I am 5'2 and for my first pregnancy and already for this one all I hear is "are you sure you aren't having twins..." and "you due anyday now, huh?!"... nope - still got a few months... AH!
