Baby Showers

Hostess Gift Help Needed! DH's secretary...

DH informed me yesterday that his secretary is throwing us a "baby shower" this Thursday!  I put "baby shower" in quotes because it's not like a real baby shower - it's more like a get-together, hob-nob thing with cake.  I don't think that there will be presents or anything like that.

Totally beside the point: I'm a little nervous because DH is an attorney at a big law firm and I really am not looking forward to seeing all of these stuffy people at 9 months pregnant, but I also think that it's really sweet that his secretary is going to do this for us!

Anyway, I've never actually met her.  (His last secretary - the one I knew - passed away earlier this year).

Any ideas about what to get someone you've never met as a hostess gift!?

  • A nice bouquet of flowers for her desk at work?  One of those edible arrangements that was mentioned in another post?  A giftcard to Starbucks, Borders, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, etc?  Maybe your DH can help out and give you an idea of something she would like.  Since you don't know her, I think it's fine to do something slightly impersonal like a gift card, but package it with a nice, personally written thank you card as well.

  • depending upon where you live but maybe a cute/nice scarf for the upcoming fall/winter months, a gift card to a spa, a gift card to her favorite restaurant, a plant for her desk, a nice picture frame, or even a gift basket with a few odds and ends in it. not sure of how much you are looking to spend, and that will base it on what would probably work best.

  • If it is possible that she is coordinating the event but on company time (thus its more of a group hosted event) I'd do something share-able, like send a muffin basket/cookie bouquet/fruit arrangement to the office the next day as a thank you. If she really did it all herself (and feels entitled to it) she can take it home, if it was more of a group effort she can share.

  • I like the idea of a bouquet of flowers for her desk.  If other people helped too they could always go in a common area.  Maybe your husband can bring them in to her the next day with a nice card from the both of you.

  • I also like the idea of your husband bringing flowers and a card the next day. I imagine they will have presents for you though,  i dont see why they wouldnt. Just cake would be no fun! lol

  • Thank you!  I asked DH and all he could think of was chocolate, so it's nice to have some other ideas!
  • I like the idea of flowers for her if she's planning everything. But also think something like muffins & coffee for the office the next day could be nice if you end up receiving gifts from people, which i'm sure you will!
