S/O moving, would you do this?

DH is an astrophysics researcher but his funding will run out tomorrow and he'll be unemployed.  He has been trying for 2 years to find a job in industry (although, he sort of sucked at looking for the first 1.5 years).  We live between Baltimore and DC and it's a very expensive area...we can make it on my salary alone, but it'll be tight.  DH will qualify for unemployment so that helps.  Our families live in NC so a lot of DH's job efforts have been directed to that area.  He almost had a job but the uppers in the company said no (even though the person who he'd be directly working for wanted him).  Currently my mama is staying with us up here to be our nanny while we work (and while DH job hunts).  But she can't stay indefinitely and there's no way DH would be able to get much job searching done while watching LO. 

We're thinking that at the end of October, if he still doesn't have anything, we'll just pack up and head back to Raleigh.  My parents said we can crash with them while we look for jobs.  I'm in biotech which is huge there so I imagine I will be able to find something quickly.  If DH finds something first, I won't work b/c I want to SAH.  Our main expenses will be private insurance (a high-deductible plan runs around $500/month) and a storage unit.  My mama will continue watching LO a lot so we can look for jobs.

Would you do it?  We have a great relationship with my folks and they have a 3rd floor suite and my dad is out of town a lot, so it wouldn't be overly 'crowded'.  But I'm scared we'll tear through our savings (we have a lot b/c while we were both working we were saving all of my salary).

    I'd start job searching now in that area (both of you) so you can hopefully get something lined up so you don't have too much time where you're using savings without income.

    Yeah, the problem is that I have no PTO left b/c I used it all on mat leave.  So I don't know how I'd go to an interview down there.

    I'd start looking for jobs there now (you too!), and hopefully at least one of you would have a job there prior to moving.

    No.  I would not move until I had already secured a job. 

    If this is a possiblity I would start looking if I were you.
