GAP, You FAIL

How does this line look like little girls???

It took me a minute to realize that I didn't end up on the wrong page (you know, for MY age).

FAIL.  They are tweens and younger.  Not college students or people who pay their own bills.  Can their clothes please reflect their innocence?

  • My initial reaction was agreement until I looked at the separates. With the exception of the motorcycle boots and jacket, and the shorts (depending on the length), I'm okay with those clothes for little girls.

That being said, the girl dressed in the trench coat, capris and flats is just impractical.

Agreed.  I think the separates are pretty cute actually.

  • I think it's cute! But then again, I dress my child like a grown adult! haha

  • I mostly don't mind them.  I have bigger issue with other store targeted directly at younger girls.  Some of them are down right awful with clothes that cover far too little.

  • I think they are fine. The stuff seems pretty age appropriate and paired with tights the shorts would be fine.

This. I like the style, minus the shorts and the boots, which are hideous.

I take issue with American Apparel's advertisements and clothing. I do like their plain t-shirts and onesies for DD because the quality is great, but other than that, I don't purchase anything from them.

    This is a fail.

I hear you 100% there.  It's why I made most of Korra's clothes this year.  Better quality, and classier.  My daughter is not a tramp, and she will not dress like one.

  • I think the little red trench is ADORABLE. I agree that overall it just looks like scaled down women's clothes that aren't cut any differently. Not suitable for every day, but I would have liked some more adult clothes to wear to piano recitals.

My 6th grade school photo:  bad "crimped" hair (braided it the night before), horizontal red & white striped shirt, and.....wait for it....suspenders. My grandmother was watching us that week. And don't get me started on holiday dresses... (don't we recall Luvlie's giant bow?!)

  • I think that American Apparel outfit would be horrible for going out to school and things like that, but if it is for a dance class it seems like it would be fine. I can see a girl wearing that with some sweater-tights and ballet shoes for dance practice. If that was their daily clothing though, yes I agree that would be a big fat fail.

  • I must be the crazy one, I think its all cute. It's all meant to be layered so its unlikely you'd see just the tank and skirt together, though even then, if it was hot what little kid doesn't want a tank top and shorts/or a skirt? I don't think a single item on that page looks trampy. I think that when the kids clothign are literally smaller version of trampy clothes for adults, but those are pretty classic designs.
  • i like that collection. i am a jeans and t-shirt girl myself, but if DD wants to wear "dressier" type clothes i would be totally cool with those outfits. they are a little adult, but i don't see anything trampy about them

I didn't call them trampy, I said that they are adult designs in miniature.  Little girls shouldn't look like little adults.  Kids are growing up too fast as it is.

my bad on the trampy thing then. i must have been thinking of a different comment.

in any case, i guess we will have to agree to disagree on the clothing.

i am curious as to what you would like to see kids wearing though. not trying to be snarky or anything - just honestly curious.

Agreed. Depending on how you paired them, I could see my mom saying "Oh that's a nice outfit for church!" but I don't think I would have had anything to do with them when I was little. *preferred her jeans and tshirts*

  • I think it'd be odd if a child only had those types of clothes, but in general, most of it is pretty cute, although I admit, the floral blouses do strike me as a bit mature (not in a trampy/slutty way at all, just in a mature, fashionable 30 year old kind of way).  All in all, not bad.

You know Suri Cruise has a $1,600 version of that trench.  Which she pairs with heels.
