Infertility

Just talked to the RE's office...

I had my day 7 progesterone check today and despite being on 600mg of prometrium daily my progesterone level was only a 7.5. I asked if this might be an indication that I didn't ovulate and they said no it would be 3 or below if I hadn't ovulated. So now the plan is they are going to call in a prescription for PIO and I start that tomorrow morning. I am so upset right now.

Has anyone ever given themselves PIO shots? DH is going with me to get the lesson on how to do them, but we work such weird hours that some days we don't see each other so I am not sure how we are going to work this. I am so pissed at my body right now.

Re: Just talked to the RE's office...

  • Sorry you have to start PIO, hon. I completely understand the fear of giving yourself the shot...but I know you can do it! Just think about all the other hard things you've managed to do in life...just like the necklace some ladies have talked about on here that says "I can do hard things"....YOU can do hard things! I know it still sucks, though...and I'm sorry for that. *hugs*

  • I'm sorry you have to add another med to the mix but you can do it!  I have never done an IM shot myself but I did learn how to do it.  I have heard that it is easier to do yourself on your dominate hand side, but that it is doable to do them yourself.  I posted something similar a few weeks ago and lots of ladies said they do their own IM shots.

  • Ugh - that sucks :( So sorry you are having to give that shot to yourself!
  • Ugh I'm sorry your body is not cooperating.  I have given myself PIO shots before; I stood in front of a mirror and put all my weight on one leg, then just reached around, held the skin taut, and put the needle in quickly.  I pulled back to check for blood, and when I didn't see any I injected.  It was probably easier than having DH do it!  Just make sure to relax when you do.

  • Sorry you have to do PIO's but it's not that hard to do them yourself. There's a little twisting involved to reach the spot, but you'll be fine.

Thank you IVF for our little miracles!!
  • A lot of ladies here have given their own PIO shots - I think there are even videos on YouTube that can show you how.

The shot itself isn't so bad (at least for me - I have a plenty on my tush to cushion the shot).  The needle is the scariest part.  It just looks scary.

I am sure you will do fine and we will be here to cheer you on.

  • That sucks. I am sorry the prometrium isn't doing it's job. DH does my PIO shots, but I am sure you can do them. The needle is scary looking, but really it's not too bad. Sorry you have to switch to it.

  • I'm so sorry your progesterone came in low.  I do all my PIO shots myself and it's really not bad.  I know it sounds scary and looks scary, but it really doesn't hurt when the shot goes in.  Best of luck... I hope this helps your progesterone levels!!  HUGS!

  • PIO really isn't all that bad. Just make sure you put heat on the injection site when you're done with the shot.

    Good luck hon!
