Question for Running Moms

I am still getting on the treadmill everyday but I am so tired, I run soooo slow and end up walking most of the time... I feel like i am not even getting a work-out!!  Then b/c I did some activity other than nap I am so hungry I eat like a horse!!  Please tell me I will be able to get a better routine going by my second trimester!!

Re: Question for Running Moms

  • I definitely felt better and was able to run more during 2nd tri.  Just hang in there & do what you can, every little bit helps.  But of course you'll be hungry, just be sure to make healthy choices.  :)

  • I am 16 weeks and I still do that. I ran marathons before I got pregnant, but I am lacking some energy these days :) I figure any workout out is better than none!
  • Yes, something is way better than nothing.  My doc told me just being pregnant is a 9 month workout.  Anything you do beyond that is double!

And yes, things will be sooo much better in your second trimester.  Hang in there.  You're doing great.

  • Yes! It will get better. And you will feel great after running. So keep plodding along for the next couple of weeks - it will be worth it. (And don't beat yourself up too badly in the meantime.)

  • I've had a rough first tri and it sounds like you've been doing more than I have.  I couldn't do anything but sleep the first 2 months.  I'm finally starting to feel a little better and am getting workouts in.  I just run at whatever pace feels best for as long as I feel comfortable.  It's been working pretty well and doing something is better than doing nothing.

As far as eating goes... well, I ate a whole pizza for dinner last night.  I know how you feel.  I'm thinking I should start keeping a log again just to see how many calories I'm actually taking in.  I either use a notebook or sparkpeople.com has a really good, free online log.  The online log helps keep track of nutrients also.

  • I was so sick and exausted in the 1st tri that I didn't run at all!  I mostly came home from work at 5pm and went straight to bed.  I also wasn't keeping enough food down to justify exercise - I felt like I needed to keep all of the calories that I was getting because it already wasn't enough!  But once I got to about 16 wk and started to feel better, I slowly picked it back up, and at 30 weeks I'm still running!  Hang in there, it will get better!
  • When I was pregnant, second tri was such an improvement!  Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing.  It gets a lot better!

  • Once you get past the tiredness of the 1st tri you should feel more energized!  Just do what you can now but don't push yourself too hard, you need the rest!  Good luck!
