Infertility

A very long intro

Good afternoon all. I am 35, married 5 years to my hubby.  We bought an old house a few years ago that we are trying to restore.

15 and 14 years ago (way before i met dh) i was pregnant and had 2 miscarriages.  the first was at 8 weeks, the second at 14 weeks.  Youth, stupidity, the inability to deal with the loss left me numb and honestly i did not delve further to find out why i kept miscarrying.   I found out a couple of years ago I am positive for MTHFR.

flash forward  to January 10, 2005.  My h and i had just moved in together and we had one "oops" on moving day.  I had not gotten my period in almost 2 months and every single hpt was negative.  My ob at the time suggested i come in and discuss fertility since i was hitting 30 and starting a family was very important to both of us.  Imagine my surprise when I found out i was expecting and about 10 weeks pg!

as with the other two pregnancies my last was plagued with constant cramping.  my doctor said it was stretching pains and not to worry.  On March 6, 2005 I bled the first time.  at the er I was accused by the doctor of not seeking prenatal care.  Since I had a history of blood clots I should have been on lovenox the entire time.  I told her my doctor knew history, took be off the bcp and never said anything to that effect.  Follow at ob and she said I had ?placenta lakes? and to expect another gush of blood.  I was to be on lovenex for 2 weeks time.  On march 13, 2005 I bled again and this time lost our limabean.  I called ob from hospital, was admitted and then next day when released I got a phone call at home for ob reminding me of my big sonogram appointment.

Crushed and disillusioned, it has taken me 5 years to want to try again.  We started ttca last about a year ago and nothing, pfft, nada.  since I am of ?advanced maternal age? my doc recommended ivf or iui.  I am not 1000% comfortable with either option because neither will guarantee I will not miscarry again.   I am stepping out on faith and thanks to some wonderful people have been referred to Kofinas Fertility Institute in brooklyn ny.  they are working with my crazy schedule (I commute 4.5 hours a day for work) and they accept my insurance.  I just did the labs and am schedule for the hsn next week.

Well that my story in a nutshell.  sorry it is so long.

I always wanted to be a mom, I just didn't know how I would get there.

  • First I want to say I'm so sorry to hear about what you have gone through. I wanted to wish you all the luck in whatever you decide to do in the future and I hope your stay here is short!

    Good luck!

  • Welcome!  It seems like we have similar stories.  I am 36 with a history of miscarriage as well.  I became pregnant right after DH #1 and I were married.  I made it to 22 weeks with twins then went into preterm labor. They determined it was due to an incompetent cervix, but assured me I was going to be fine, since I was so young and it was a multiple pregnancy.  2 years later, became pregnant again and miscarried at 11 weeks when I had a cyst on one of my fallopian tubes rupture and blow through part of my tube.  Had laproscopic surgery and they were able to repair the tube, but lost the pregnancy.

Fast forward to May 2009 when I married DH#2 (who, btw, is just the best!) and we started trying immediately.  Miscarriage #3 happened around 11 weeks as well in Nov 2009.  Kept trying immediately after and found out I was not ovulating on my own.  Tried 2 IUI's that failed and my RE is encouraging us to go to IVF due to my "advanced age" as well.  I knew that getting pregnant no means guarantees me that I will stay pregnant, but DH and I were very ready to try IUI and IVF treatments.

I am glad your clinic is able to work with your schedule and you have insurance coverage.  We are completely OOP for everything.

Good luck with your hsn and I look forward to getting to know you!

    Sorry response was so long.

  • Welcome to the board, I hope your stay is short. I'm so sorry for your losses, I can only imagine how hard that must've been. This is a wonderful board, with many great ladies...

Although I've never miscarried (never been pregnant at all), I am 35 also - but my doctors have not suggested going right for IUI or IVF. We've been doing timed intercourse in combination with either clomid, femara, or injectibles for the last year. With your history of losses and MTHFR,that might be why they are suggesting that?

There are several ladies on here who have MTHFR and/or  multiple losses who may be able to share their experiences and treatments too.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in your journey. I hope you find success soon, and get your sticky baby!
