RE: After labor pics..what about the rest of your hospital stay?

I personally forgot to pack any make up at all, forgetting people may want to visit me and not see a total beast. There are NO decent pics from the whole time we were in the hospital.

I don't think it would have mattered.  Between the weight gain and the fluids that they were pumping into me for 12 hours my head looked like a cabbage patch kid...and NOT the newborn version.

I had makeup and put it on each morning but yeah the swelling (besides the out of control hair) was the worst.

  • After Ella as soon as they would let me I took a shower. MH blew dried my hair (LOVE HIM!) and I put on some foundation, a little bronzer and some mascara....it seriously made me feel like a million bucks.
  • I'm vain. I fully admit it. I hate hate hate the pics of me w/ DD right after she was born. 23 hours of labor + 2 am = shit. I brought lip/cheek stain, concealer, lip balm and mascara so I looked decent for subsequent pics. Taking 5 min to put makeup on made me feel so much better. I don't mind those at all.

I told DH for anymore kids, I will not take pics until I've combed my hair and at least put on some concealer and gloss. I told him I want a makeup artist and hair person at the ready. I was only half joking.

  • yeah...the shower helped tremendously!  All our good pictures are dated 2 days after he was born!

  • I put on my make-up in the car on the way to the hospital and I had my mom add some more blush and lip gloss as I was getting ready to push.

I had my hair back in a ponytail the whole time so it didn't look that bad.

Once I went back to my room and DD was being monitored in the nursery, I washed my face and reapplied my make-up, then put it on every morning in the hospital and had my lip gloss handy the whole time.

I never ever ever go anywhere without my face on, so this wouldn't be any different to me.

  • with my first ugh I hate the pictures!  I put makeup on but with the weight gain, all the fluid I was holding, and my very round face it did absolutely nothing!  However with my second I love the pictures and surprisingly my favorite ones are about 5 minutes after he was born.  It's nice to have good pictures this time after having horrible ones the first.
  • My water broke at 5am when I was still asleep.  I called the oncall nurse and asked her if I had time to shower.  She said that was fine as long as I didn't doddle.  I took a shower, put on makeup, and we even stopped for starbucks.  There was no way I wasn't going to have makeup on for afterbirth pics.  Well, after 10 hours of labor two and a half spent pushing, I should have just done without the makeup since i looked like crap anyway!
