CD Questions

We started CDing about 2 weeks ago.  My biggest hesitation to CDing was the extra laundry, but surprisingly, I haven't minded that part at all.  We are trying several different kinds, & I'm having a couple problems.  First, she is leaking out of them pretty often.  She leaks out the back. I make sure I have them up nice & high, but she always seems to leak.  It's just a little, but leaking is leaking.  My 2nd complaint is that they are SO bulky!  It's driving me nuts that they are so bulky to put under clothes.  It takes forever to get her pants pulled up around them, & then they are super tight.  If I go up a size, they are ridiculously long.  Plus, we are planning to continue doing some disposables, so I can't just upgrade all of her sizes because then they won't fit with the disposable diapers.  I feel like I can hardly even put her in a sitting position on my lap when she has a CD on because she's so bulky/stiff in them.  It's driving me crazy.  I REALLY want to CD, but I'm going to need some suggestions to keep this going.

Here is a list of the diapers we are using, if that helps:

Thirsties Duo Diaper

Thirsites Duo Wrap

BG AIO

BG Flip

Fuzzi Bunz OS Pocket

We have a BG 4.0 & a BabyKicks Fitted on their way to try.

Any help is much appreciated!!!

Re: CD Questions

  • As far as leaking goes, I only get pee leaks if the cloth part of the diaper is not completely covered. Like if the fitted diaper is sticking up over the cover or if the leg holes are too loose on a one size and her clothes touch the inside. So, I just try to be more careful of how I put them on.

I agree they are bulky but I'm not having a problem with pants right now. She's pretty much always in FB Perfect size which are more trim fitting than the One Size diapers. I honestly have no plans to put her back in a one size diaper until she's on at least the 2nd snap size so it's not so bulky.

    good luck!

  • I don't really know much about the leaking out the back.  K doesn't have this problem.  Are the diapers the right size?  I noticed that when K's diapers were getting small, we had more blowouts.

The bulkiness is an issue.  We were lots of dresses and baby legs.

The diapers being a fashion statement makes up for the bulkiness.

  • Are you sure the diaper fits right?  DS started leaking with his NB diapers when he outgrew them.  That was the only time that we had leaks consistently.  Now they only leak if someone else changes his diaper and the cloth part is sticking out or they're not on tight enough.  User error, basically.

The bulk isn't a huge issue for us, but I think it's because G is so big.  He's already on the medium size in his OS diapers.

  • I agree with pp's about the leaking.  The only time I've had a leak problem is if the diaper isn't on her right and either to loose or the cloth is sticking out.

The bulkiness bothered me for awhile but now I'm pretty used to it.  Some cloths fit better than others I've noticed.  I have pants that drive me nuts and ones that fit pretty great.  I think her BG 4.0 are less bulky then the KL0's she's been in though.

    This exactly!

  • Thanks girls. I think her fuzzibuns diaper is a little too big, & I think maybe I'm not doing a good enough job of getting the liners tucked under the covers (esp with the thirsties duo & the flip). I guess the bulkiness is something I'm going to have to get past. Hopefully the BG 4.0 will seem a little better.
  • Are the inserts soaked when she leaks? If so you may need more absorbancy or need to change her more often. Also, I just learned that the Fuzzibuns OS has an adjustment in the back as well, you have to dig in there to find it but it may need to be adjusted. It's true that they are bulky. The FB are probably the least, although I didn't try the thirsties duo until size 2.

We do like a lot of dresses and skirts, but it won't take a lot of growing on her part before they seem less rediculous. She was about 3 1/2 mos when she was able to get her feet to her mouth with the diaper on, and at 4 1/2 months she was sitting up without support, so they certainly didn't hold her back. And she is still able to wear some 3 months clothes, depending on the brand (Carters mostly). Good luck and I hope you do decide to continue!
