Pregnant,no job and bored!

Hi everyone...before I got pregnant, I was in the middle of a job search. Once I found out I was pregnant, I put the job search on hold. So now I am 18 weeks pregnant and am so bored at home! My husband works all day and I feel as though I am sitting at home with no purpose. Is anyone else out there in a similar position or have any suggestions?

  • At 18 weeks I personally would still be job searching.  Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you can't interview and find a job.  I interviewed and landed a promotion at 16 weeks.  If you are planning to be a SAHM then I can understand why maybe landing a job right now wouldn't make sense.

Perhaps you can find a part time job doing something fun that you enjoy versus looking for a career? Or, find somewhere to volunteer?

  • I agree!  I would work, if possible.  Pregnancy is lonnnnng and sitting home bored is not going to be fun.  I started a new teaching position when I was 6 months pregnant with my 4th child.  I ended up resigning when the baby was born to be a stay at home mom, but it was definitely worth it for me to work.  My pregnancy flew by and my other children had a great Christmas because of the extra money!!  When I was pregnant with my 3rd child, I was in between teaching jobs and still substitute taught.  I can't imagine sitting home bored waiting for my baby to arrive.  That is torture.  :)

If you can't find a job, I would volunteer somewhere.  Otherwise, hit the library.  Kristin Hannah is a great author.  Good luck!  :)

  • I would go crazy sitting at home with nothing to do.  I'd get a job somewhere like Starbucks just to keep me busy and bring in some extra cash 'til the baby comes, or maybe volunteer.

  • My sis was a stay-at-home mom too and she started a LunaMoms group for her town. www.lunabar.com/life/luna_moms_club

Also, you might check out www.lilaguide.com to find other moms in your area who are in your same situation.  You might be able to shop together or start a walking/excercise group or do something fun like that.

The best thing I can think of though, is to do something you have always wanted to do, but never had the time.  Like take a foreign language class at your local community college.  If you register as a non-degree seeking student, a lot of times you pay for the application and for the registration, but then all your classes are free.  So take an art class, learn a musical instrument, or something else that you've never had the time/money to learn before.  You might find out you have a natural talent for something that you've never been able to try before.

Best of luck to you :)

  • I def am.  I worked up until my 11th week.  I have a heart condition and a pelvic hernia so I was urged to quit.  Not having the stress is great, and my husband is really supportive, but I am so bored too!  I thought about starting up the search again but I'll have to quit again and not all places have maternity leave or they require a certain length of time with the company, usually a year.  So I would reccomend cleaning a lot and reading.  I'm only 15 weeks so I know it will be a long wait, but for me it's worth it.
