I am a little disappointed. There is supposed to be an organized free playgroup at a local hospital that I was given a flyer for from a nurse a few weeks ago. I called a few days ago to get some information but the woman in charge was unavailable and has yet to call me back. The playgroup was supposed to meet today so I took DD. I got there and they informed me it has been canceled. They were not able to give me a reason why. There are still flyers up all over the hospital for it.
I was so excited to take DD to this palygroup because she really isn't around any children her age. I have tried setting up other playgroups but no one seems to be able to commit.
I have researched so much and cannot find any other local playgroups. The Y has playgroups but they are for preschool aged children. I really think DD should be around other children at this point but I don't know what to do. I take her out and about all the time. We go to different parks in the area but I never see any children DD's age. This is becoming a little frustrating. I feel like I am letting DD down somehow. Ugh. Sorry for the vent.
Re: Really wish there were more playgroups.
We made our own play group on our local nestie/bump board. We've met once a month for 9 months - its been fun.
I assume you've tried meet up and putting somethng in your local/community paper? What about the local library or the Rec Center? do you have Gymboree or Little Gym near you - those aren't free, but you see the same kids every week.
Where in WI are you located?
I just moved to Madison & there seems to be an overwhelming amount of activities/playgroups for children. Moms in Madison is a great resource if you are from this area!
I totally get you! I live in italy and I've been looking for playgroups or activities since I was pregnant but they are all for 3+ yr olds! It's just not normal over here
I'm really sad about it too! Sara doesn't go to DC so she doesn't even get that
I want her to socialize too!!
we moved over here like a year ago and don't know many people, we do know a couple that has a 17 mo BUT they like like 30 minutes away so we see them like once a month
I'm considering taking her to DC (like 2 days a week) even if I don't work just so she can be around kids
I have looked into the Y care center but I am not that interested in our Y's facilities right now. If I can't find anything else, I will try it out. I have looked for programs through the rec and nothing seems available for DD's age group. I have organized quite a few playgroups but nobody seems to be able to committ.
I haven't put an ad in our newspaper yet, so I still have that option.
Thanks for the input.
I live in the Fox cities area. Not so much here. I bet Madison is awesome for childrens' activities!
my sister lives in the fox cities & seems to have good luck with the libraries in that area. if i'm not mistaken they just started their fall story hours - she's attending with her 1 year old!
This was my suggestion. There are tons of groups I get offers for on there, after joining a breastfeeding meetup group. My problem is that I work FT and most are geared towards SAHMs.
Good luck...sounds fun!
Also, if you take a swim class or something, you may naturally find some moms to hang with.
Just did! That is awesome! Still, there is only one group listed and it is about 40 minutes away. DD likes car rides so we just might give it a shot anyway. Thanks so much, this really made my day : )
That is an idea I was pondering. Our library just started a story hour, but it is on one of the two days I work during the week. My mom watches DD and she isn't one to adjust her schedule. I would love my for my mom to take her, but we are having a disagreement on carseat positions right now
Awesome! I'm glad I could help.
I've been using quite a bit of initiative. As mentioned before, I have tried setting up quite a few playgroups. No one is taking the bait. My next step, as it seems, is putting an ad in the newspaper. I love the idea of meetup.com. I can't believe I have never heard of it!
