I had been calling all over the place to find preservative/thimersol free flu shots, with no luck. So in case anyone else is having this problem, it turns out that CVS has them but only at the "minute clinic" locations. You can just go onto CVS's website to look up the "minute clinic" locations. Hope this helps!
Re: PSA: Where to find preservative free flu shot
Why is this particular shot so important to everyone? I'm getting the regular one. My doc office didn't even have the thimersol free one.....
Thimerosol has a high mercury content. Some people are linking it to autism. We're told to stay away from high mercury fish in pregnancy so I can't imagine injecting your body with mercury would be good either. Regardless, I won't be getting a flu shot.
The link between autism and vaccines has been DISPROVEN in about 15 different studies...and there is NO evidence that it applies to pregnant women who get these shots. Additionally autism has not gone down since thimersol was taken out of most pediatric vaccines. The amount of mercury in the flu shot is about the same as eating a tuna fish sandwich.
That being said I can understand if you are being cautious but dont skip the vaccine just because of the mercury content. A recent New England Journal Article is very clear the vaccine is for your health AND your babies.

If you ask for the one in the prepackaged syringe instead of the vile, it should have "less" preservatives in it. DH sells the flu shots to dr's and clinics and that's what he told me..
If it's so bad, then why do all the obgyn's offer it to all pregnant women? All the news stories about flu shots say the elderly, infants, and pregnant women should all get it......
Honestly I will repeat this again. Mercury in LOW doses is not BAD. OBGYN's will tell you a little tuna or fish with mercury occasionally wont hurt you. The Mercury in a flu shot is equal to a tunafish sandwich.
People are making a really big leap in judgement here. They figure
Thimersol=mercury=autism=BAD
Studies have shown this isnt true time and time again. We know HIGH doses of mercury can harm a babies developing immune system but a small dose has shown no adverse effects. Please people listen to the CDC! They recommend flu shots..not just thimersol free shots...to all pregnant women. The histeria surrounding vaccines is just ridiculous.
I've also heard that Thimerosal doesn't have that high of a mercury level, but I wonder if there is a difference between it being injected directly into your bloodstream versus being ingested? I would think you would have to ingest a much higher amount to have the same effect as what is being injected into your system?
no kidding, medical recommendations change every couple years it seems and drugs are being pulled from the market left and right because of dangerous side effects. vioxx anyone? I was actually on it right before it was pulled!
with studies coming out to disprove other studies, and then those studies are disproven a couple years later by additional studies, I don't trust them in general. especially not until I know exactly who funded them.
