I try my best to coordinate with DH so I get to sleep a few hours before work. My DH works nights too and also goes to college in the morning so it's sometimes really really hard for both of us to get enough sleep.
I often don't get to nap during the day before a night shift, it sucks but what do you do? It affects the quality of care that I give my patients because I'm so darn tired.
I also have tried to have my mom and MIL watch him during the day for a few hours to let me sleep but they both work so it's rare if they are available. Another option is paying someone but by the time I pay someone to watch him at night and during the day it would probably be over half of my paycheck.
I'm currently looking for another day position only job because I can't keep doing night shifts.

I work three nights a week. I work Saturdays into Sundays. I get to sleep all day on Sunday. My husband works on Sunday as well so my MIL watches my boys. I go into work Sunday evening into Monday. I have to stay awake all day on Monday. I try to get my two year old to take a nap while the other two are in school so we can sleep together. I then work Wed. night into Thursday. I again and up all day and try to catch a nap when my youngest naps. It is really hard. But I get six days with my kids, I am there when they are going to school and coming home. I can go to all of their activites and play dates! Sometimes you make sacrifices in life. Of course, I would love to be able to get seven nights of sleep a week!
I work Fri, Sat, Sun nights. On Thurs, I stay up a little late and try to sleep in. DH gets up w/the kids and takes DS to preschool and DD to my friend's house. I pick DS up from preschool then DD up from my friend's house at around 11:30. On Monday morning, DH gets up w/the kids again. DS goes home w/a friend for lunch after preschool. Then I pick them up around 1:00 to come home for naps.
This is only my second weekend of this schedule so not sure it's how things are going to stay. I am having a hard time getting any sleep before my first night shift and was so exhausted today so DH (who was luckily working from home) picked up the kids.
I work th, fri, and sat nights. Th. I take a nap before I go in, then sleep all day fri and sat. Sometimes Sun too, depends on how I feel. DH WFH and watches both kids during the day. I take DD to work so he gets uninturrupted sleep at night. Since I nurse DH also will bring in DD 1-2 times during the day to nurse and nap with me. I've been doing this for 2 years and it works very well. We had a small adjustment period when DD was born but its all good now.

I work Fri & Sat nights only, which means I take a nap on Fridays before work (1-2 hr) and then sleep Sat when I get home from work...maybe 5 hours? Then work again Sat night, then sleep again on Sunday mornings.
We have daycare on Fridays only, which works out great $$ wise, and so far, this schedule is easier than a variable schedule with days changing every week.
I still will worship the day I can stop working night shift though.....
