Cradle cap in 2-year-old?

When I went to get DD's hair cut last week the stylist mentioned that she has cradle cap. I had noticed the flaking but had chaulked it up to a sunburn...I feel better that it wasn't sunburn, but have no idea how to get rid of it!  Any suggestions?  She had recommended a shampoo specifically for cradle cap, but I didn't see any at Target...

Thanks!

  • Yep, DS still has it. We just got California Baby Tea Tree Oil shampoo at Target. It was recced by someone here and so far it's helping a bit. It's not cured (maybe because DS still only gets baths a few nights a week), but I think it's better. I found it in the baby section of the store.

  • Mustela makes a newborn Shampoo that is specifically for Cradle Cap.  It is a foam shampoo and works wonders.  They make an entire line of products for Cradle Cap.
  • My DD only had it once but it last for almost 2 months and it was right around 2 when she finally got hair! I actually put olive oil on her on her scalp and rubbed it and then combed out the flakes as much as possible. I also used the baby shampoo from Walmart that had Winnie the Pooh on it but it did make her hair greasy. The Dr said to make sure I was washing her hair only every other day and using actual tear free shampoo and no all over body wash. Don't know if you are doing any of that. But after much combing it did eventually go away and hasn't returned.

  • We've got the same problem. We rub baby oil in and the pedi recommended Head and Shoulders. Haven't tried that yet, cuz of the whole tears issue.
  • DD had it for some time and after trying less frequent washing to several specialty products I just started using my shampoo on her and it has almost entirely cleared up.
