allergies before the age of one?

I always thought kids weren't supposed to have allergies until after a year old... and that breastfeeding was supposed to help... but my kid is not 6 months old and on a daily allergy med with decongestant Tongue Tied

Anyone else in this boat? I'm totally starting a savings account for her ear tubes now....:(

My gf's son has been on something for allergies for a while now. He just turned 1.

Sorry, my original response assumed it was food allergies - duh, there are other types of allergies! So she has environmental allergies? I have no idea how those are treated but I would assume that babies can also get them.

idk about regular allergies like from pollen and things...but I was told by Pedi that DS has a Peanut sensitivity. I EBF and everytime I have some kind of nut or anything with peanut butter in it....I'll breast feed him a few hours after...or the next morning and he breaks out from head to toe all splotchy. He's been doing that since 3 1/2 months. She said for now it's a sensitivity...but we will see what happens when he ingests it directly.

LO was showing signs of food allergies while he was still EBF. When he had a severe reaction to milk based formula at 6 mos, we did testing and found out he is also allergic to dogs. We have a dog, so he was congested quite a bit. We gave zyrtec when he seemed itchy, rashy or congested. Probably for the last two months, he's been great! I'm hoping the dog allergy is going away as his immune system matures. We probably last gave him zyrtec in late June/early July. Hopefully you'll see improvements with time.

It seems like it is mostly environmental. Alex and I are both miserable this time of year from pollen... and so is she. Her gene pool was not friendly:(
