How long is your 4 week old awake?

My sweet DD is no longer taking naps like she used to.

Today she woke up at 7 and didn't go down until close to 10.  She was only sleeping for about 20 minutes and woke up again.

Then she went down at 3:00 and was down for a couple hours.  Is this normal?

She is fussy when she's awake, so I'm not sure what to do with her.  LOL...

  • DS will have 2 really wakeful times during the day which last about 2 hrs each. Otherwise he'll nap for 1-3 hrs, wake up and eat, fall asleep for about 10 mins, then wake up for 30 mins, then fall back asleep for another nap (unless its his "wakeful" as I call it).

THIS EXACTLY! My DD is 4 weeks also and this sounds just like us...especially the fussiness while awake...this is kind of new and has been happening for 4 days in a row now.

  • DD still sleeps a lot.  She's been sleeping about 5-6 hours at night, waking up and eating and then sleeping for another 4 hours or so.  Today she was up the longest, about 3 hours, and she's pretty much been sleeping ever since 2pm today.  She barely weeks up for her bottle and hasn't been eating as much as normal.

Same here my baby is fussy when not eating or sleeping, hard to entertain, he naps around 9 or 10 for about 2 hours and again in the afternoon.  goes to bed around 9 but needs an evening nap or he is very fussy!

This as well!  She's fussy the whole time she's awake unless I'm hold

  • My LO has started doing this, too!  He'll sleep for maybe 15-20 minutes at a time during the day.  When he's awake, he'll be be content and alert for a stretch of about 15 minutes and will then start to get drowsy and cranky.  And I know it's because he's sleepy, but he just won't go to sleep!
