2nd Trimester

? For ladies who started out with a chubby tummy

Hi, lurking from 1st Tri.  This is my second baby, but the first time around I didn't start out with such a chubby tummy. (I gain all my weight in my stomach)

So my question is, did you have any trouble with the tummy ultrasound, or with the doppler?   Or even with the Dr. being able to feel where your uterus is?  I'm worried all my fat is going to get in the way.  =)

Thanks!

  • I'm a size 14/16 and they haven't had any problems with dopplers or u/s with either pregnancy.

  • No problems here. I am not super heavy but my tummy has always had some flub.
  • My doc didn't have any trouble hearing the heartbeat with a doppler nor was there any trouble with ultrasounds. The only thing about a chubby tummy is that it MIGHT take longer to look pregnant.
  • I wouldnt say I was fat but I am definetly built a little thicker. They had trouble with the doppler a little bit it took maybe a min to find it but I figure that all normal since the baby switches positions. Im sure youll be fine!
  • I am a pre-preg size 24 and just had my second ultrasound at 18.5 weeks with no problems, I do have to go back in a month b/c they couldn't see the heart as well as they wanted but the u/s tech said that had more to do with the u/s being a little earlier than 20 weeks.

Still could distinguish gender, brain, kidneys, etc.!

Don't worry, I'm sure you will be fine!

  • no problems here with any of that. I even have a home doppler and can find the heartbeat.

Well thanks to my lovely body that likes to ONLY gain weight in my stomach, I kind of already look like I've got a pregnant bump. Ha, ha.  =)

  • I hold all my weight in my belly and they haven't had any trouble feeling the uterus or using the doppler.  I get embarrassed when they are feeling around my fat, but other than that, no problems.

  • Don't worry! I'm a 14 and on the first try every time my OB finds the baby with the u/s machine or doppler. No searching required!

I have read that having some more weight in the stomach area will make it harder to find the hb with a home doppler. I'm not sure how true it is though!

  • i was a 14/16 before pregnancy and so far no troubles finding HBs/Ultrasounds....the only thing that bothers me is that my extra tummy padding seems to be migrating upward with my intestines and I can look REALLY pregnant, but it is just my fat.....I will be happy when the flab and the bump merge into one happy round being....

  • I am definately overweight and have had no issues with either pregnancy.  I use a home doppler and don't ever expect to hear a heartbeat until they get it at the doctor.

  • I'm a size 18/20 and also carry most of my weight in my tummy. I wasn't able to hear my baby's heartbeat with the dopplar, but that was only becase my heart was beating too loudly. I had an abdominal ultrasound the same day and it turned out great. That made me feel better. :)
