Could use some advice about wovens

Hi ladies! I'm pretty new to this whole bw thing but I love being close to my baby girl and she loves my RS and is learning to love the ergo. Anyway I LOVE how woven look and was looking to just skip the moby since I know babies get too heavy for them eventually. Where would you recommend I buy my woven/what kind would you recommend? Are there any online stores you shop at? I live in a very small town and have very few resources for bw'ing. The nearest store that carries any carriers or wraps is 2 and a half hours from my home. I'd love to know which woven wraps you like and why. Thanks!!!

  • I get almost all of my wraps from the For Sale or Trade (FSOT) forum on thebabywearer.com and prefer buying used wraps because they are already broken in.  Ncbelle's siggy has a link to all of the different kinds of woven wraps and where to buy them.

For a first woven I love my Vatanai because it really does mold to me and feels like a second skin.  Girasols are very nice to work with as well.  Since you are in an area that will be getting cold soon I would suggest starting with a Neobulle because they are a little thicker.

As for size I would say start with a 6 which should enable you to do most carries and the longer length is easier to learn with.

  • NCBelle (who posts a lot on here) has some great info in her siggy. Also, check out the babywearer.com... that's where I learned a ton and they have a FSOT forum where you can get great deals on used wraps.

  • We have a 5.2 Neobulle that we got at 'Piece of Cloth'. I love it! I agreee that trying TBW and buying used would also be a good option, I feel it is easier with a broken in wrap, but I may be crazy! II learned with a Moby and then when I got my new woven it took me a bit to learn to get it tight enough since it is thicker and has no give. So maybe it was less that it was broken in and more that I had practice...who knows! That being said it is worth it and once you get a hold down it is fast.

  • I'm in NZ so can't comment on where to get them, as I have trouble sourcing them myself.

However, I just thought I'd comment that I have a hoppediz. I love it for it's weight and softness and is very easy to use. You can also machine wash and put it in the dryer.

My only issue with it, is that it comes with a sewn in pocket at one end, big enough to hold keys, phone and money. It sounded like a great feature but I have never used the pocket because I never wanted things knocking against me, and in reality the pocket simply added extra bulk to the tails.

So I unpicked the pocket. It didn't take me long to do at all, so it wouldn't stop me buying a hoppediz if I loved a colourway, but it's not the "bonus" it sounds like it is, in my opinion.
